Is this normal two months after my laparoscopy?

Hi all, hope some of you can help!

My laparoscopy and excision was on 27th February, so it has been just over two months now. I was put back on Lucette just after my first post-surgery period, and my last period was definitely slightly better (pain wise).

However, I'm having a few issues at the moment. Since my surgery, every single day it hurts to urinate and I feel like I have the start of a UTI. I've had sex with my partner twice since my lap, however, each time it BURNS horrendously inside (along the vaginal walls), and it burns after for quite some time. I shower immediately after, however, the next morning when I wake up, there is a real fishy odour when I urinate.

I therefore went to my GP on Monday morning just gone (the 30th) and my GP is amazing - he is the one that really listened to me before my diagnosis, and he is the one that pre-diagnosed me before my lap based on all my scans etc. (even when the other doctors thought it was all in my head and thought it was "just an infection"!). He is the one who said "I am 99% sure it is endometriosis", and low and behold, my lap discovered five different areas of endo.

Anyway, my GP ran the normal tests, so he took a urine sample and took lots of swabs, and my urine sample was showing that it contained nitrates, but nothing else. My GP prescribed me with a three day course of Nitrofurantoin to tide me over until my swabs came back, and he told me to call back today.

I then called him today, and he said that it is a mystery... my urine sample came back "fine", my swabs came back clear, and there is no sign of infection! I was adamant that I had Bacterial Vaginosis due to the horrible odour after sex, and the nitrates in my urine suggest a UTI, so my doctor said that I'm going to have to go for some more tests. Could this be my endo causing these issues? Has anyone had similar? I saw a different doctor about 3 weeks after my lap as my urine was painful, but he did a urine sample and it came back clear. I suffered from chronic UTIs from the age of about 15-20 (I lost my virginity to my partner when I was 18), but I had a bladder flush and I haven't had one since (my GP thinks the 5 years of UTIs was definitely endo related).

I really am at a loose end, so I would be grateful for anyone's comments.

Thanks all,

E x

Big hugs. I remeber that burning feeling. Surgery seems to mess up the balance down there. I developed awful thrush after my surgery. You can get lady probiotics from optibac and other companies to help rebalance.

Could it perhaps be interstitial cystitis? That is often a companion condition to endometriosis ichelp.org/ and called its evil twin.

If so i found taking antihistamines helped as did avoiding sugary food, stopping using toiletries and products with SLES and parabens and changing to organic sanity towels.

Just a few ideas.....

I had UTIs continuously in the early days of getting endo. I'd drink copious amounts of pure cranberry juice (not the one with lots of sugar) and lemonade as it changes the acidity of urine. Also like Starry I stopped using tampons and personally I think this was the life saver.

Some probiotics actually made my yeast infections worse so I spoke to a herbalist who said there's a specific one that doesn't (sorry I can't remember the name!) But again like Starry it could be something else like IC. The odour thing could also be related to hormones and separate from any infection symptoms. Sorry not much help but truly feel your pain & frustration.
