When to worry about an incision?

Is there any markers?

My belly button is just full of dried blood / a scab and it’s a hard scab I’ve tried to clean it with warm salt water but it won’t budge and I don’t want to keep pulling at it and make it sore or upset it. I’ve done all I can cleaning wise and I’ve kept it covered with clean dressings

Hi there as long as it does not have an icky smell or puss or u have a temp it's still healing. Keep it clean and let air at it. It could take a few weeks the scab will drop off in it's own time. I've had 2 laps x

Perfect. It’s just a huge hard blood scab I’ve touched it and it’s completely solid. They went right in the middle of my belly button by the looks of it and my belly button is a big hole anyway so you can see how the blood has settled and scabbed over I’m not going to poke and mess with it. Cleaned with salt salt had a shower and then put fresh dressings on hopefully it will just drop out eventually

I would leave air to get at it hun I dont think your meant to cover the incisions once you take the ones from the hospital off, unless of course you may catch it on your pajama bottoms waist . When ypur sitting down though let it all hang out and get air at it

Only reason I covered was because I didn’t want dog hair in it haha

I covered my belly button one for the same reason and I didn't want the tie bit on the inside of my jogging bottoms to get in it!

See if you can leave it to air during the night? However if it's a scab it should be fine with whatever you do, belly buttons are awful when cut; yours sounds like it's healing for a start.

I agree with you; no poking, you don't know how it's doing underneath; but if you are worried then speak to a doctor x

It’s one hard blood plug scab they’ve clearly gone right in the middle which is good for the scar lol.

Yeah I don’t want to poke or pick it out I know it’s going to fall out and break away eventually

Hi there.

I am currantly recovering from a laparoscapy and excision of endometriosis. I had the procedure 6 days ago on the second day inside my belly button started bleeding, this happened twice. I was advised to see a nurse, the nurse told me that everything looks fine but I needed to make sure I rest and "no bending down" my incision was left with no dressing as it is important to allow air to get to it.. From what I understand as long as it closes (scabs over) and there are no signs of infection there is nothing to worry about.

However I believe the most important part of recovery is to trust how you feel. If you are worried about something seek medical advise, don't hesitate just incase it is nothing.

The scab is slowly starting to come away I can see part of the incision just before the scab it’s looking fresh.

I’ve cleaned it with warm salt water and I’m letting it air today

Sounds like you are healing nicely! After having a few baths I can also now see the incision. It would seem that all is left for us to do now is wait and see how groovy the scars are going to be haha.

Take care of yourself, I hope you are up and kicking soon.

I feel the water seems to loosen the scab? A few bits of mine broke away this morning lol still a huge bit left and it’s rock hard but a scab is only a healing process to protect it so that’s only a positive. Mines a black blood kinda scab so super thick and tough and solid haha it’s so rank

I’m aching a bit today, back ache, still bloated, sore full of gas 😂 noticed a nice bruise coming up on my stomach 😂

definitely leave it to air now, putting dressing on it will make it get soft from heat n sweating n moisture will stay inside so the wound is always going to be soft, I had hysterectomy 6 weeks ago thru laparoscopic and nurse took my dressings off the day after n told me to let the air get to them it's best way for a small wound to heal, plus sweating n stuff being trapped under that wee dressing will make it easier for infection x
