Bowel Problems

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has experience similar, I had surgery back in January last year and they had to remove some endo off the bowel, since then bowel problems have got a lot worse. I suffer with loose stools & constipation, I struggle eating sometimes because no matter what it is, it’s like my bowel can’t handle it. Sometimes I can wake needing to go and be in so much pain I feel faint and also have cramping pain up above the belly button. It’s become a really vicious circle and I just wondered if I was alone in feeling this? I am waiting to see the bowel specialist x

I had problems like that for months after my bowel shave for my grade 4 every endo nodule but it did gradually settle after I took some strong proBiotic and digestive enzymes and did low fodmap diet vegan for a few months followed by since January a low acid diet by Dr aviv, a gastro surgeon. Have you seen a qualified nutritional therapist? I found one independently and went 3 times and gota lot out of it, in marked contrast to my NHS gastrointestinal and dietician specialists

I still have reflux esophagitis but it is much improved. I found taking pregabalin seemed to help me break a short circuit cycle that must have been happening helped my anxiety, sleep and reflux but has given me bad constipation so I'm in trouble with that now, so empathise with the cramping at night :( I find eating earlier in the evenings helps and trying to snack more through the day to reduce the portion size of the evening meal.

No I haven’t seen one. I saw a dietician who had no idea. I’m trying to have bland dinners now and not eat afterwards until the next day, I am waiting to see the bowel surgeon under the bsge centre. Tried so many things now and nothing is enough for much relief. Will look at fodmap ☺️

I had definite symptom change after surgery - I was used to having diarrhea all the time, now have regular constipation and recently couldn't sleep because of pain from constipation. I decided to try and be consistent in the fiber in my diet and my meal times, but it sounds like you should go back to the doctor and see if there is something else going on that needs to be examined. Hope you feel better soon!

I hate what changes occurred after surgery, now things are so bad over a year later I’m struggling mentally, luckily I am waiting to the bowel specialist. Thank you

I feel like this illness is challenging because we can never see what is happening and surgery itself is something to recover from so it's hard to know what is the new 'normal'. Finding a good doctor seems to be half the battle - hope the bowel specialist helps you out :) In the meantime i think probiotics can't hurt and when you have diarrhea maybe try activated charcoal? Both have worked for me in the past when I have been struggling.

I’m going to get some charcoal, did you buy probiotics from a health shop too?

I know I always wonder what’s happening inside at times the way it feels. Thank you x
