3 weeks post op after total hysterectomy

Hello I hope everyone's well.

I haven't been on for a while due to my recent surgery: total hysterectomy. Before my surgery I was told my ureters would both be stented to protect them, I was diagnosed with severe endometriosis, my consultant was trying to protect them. I have to say if this is offered to you do not have it, omg I thought I was going to die the pain was unbareable my body was trying to pass the stents constantly. I had a cathiter in for three days which was heavily blood stained they said as a result of the stents. After begging and rolling round my bed in agnony I was rushed for s CT Scan where they found I had stage 2 renal injury, low HB. My whole experience was traumatic I was on a general gyni ward in a single room, when I buzzed for pain relief it took at least 4 occasions for me to be offered anything. I was prescribed oramorph and ketamine but every time I was offered one ibruphen. I am considering a compliant to the ward as the standard of care was poor. After returning from surgery I was unable to move I had no water jug to have a drink, I had to reach accross in my holdhall to thankfully get my water I had brought with me.

I am now three weeks post op, I wanted to know anyone else's feeling thoughts on recovery time, I still feel like my insides are falling out, it hurts when I laugh and cough, is this right at 3 weeks. I am up and about due to the time of year, plenty to do. I have an abdominal scar from hip to hip this is healing nicely. I had a lot of endo removed especially from my sigmoid colon and within my abdo. I have to wait 6 weeks before I can explore HRT because it will stimulate my endo again. Anyone any advice please on my herbal or vitamins to take, I really would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Mandy

Hi Mandy,

I'm sorry you had such a traumatic surgery. I'm going in for a total hysterectomy in 2 weeks and I'm nervous and hoping for the best. That said, I did have extensive surgery in 2015 to remove stage 3 deep penetrating endo from all over my insides, it was literally every where including fusing my colon to my uterus and it took me a long time to recover.

I encourage you to take is slow and easy. Your body and mind went through something very traumatic (extra traumatic) and it will take time to heal physically and emotionally. It took me weeks to be able to do more than walk little bits, bath myself (using a shower chair) and dress myself. I slept A LOT for the first 3-4 weeks and I'd say it took me about 4 months to be back to normal activities and normal level of fatigue. Everyone recovers at their own pace so just listen to your body and don't push yourself.
