Hi

This could be endometriosis as you can get pain at any point in your cycle. Have you been to your GP? I would recommend just to rule out any possible infection that may need antibiotics.

We all read too much on the internet don’t we! :)

Perhaps see if the pain subsides after your period, but if the problems persist see your GP again.

The ultrasound by non expert person will come back clear 100% of the time unfortunately! You need one by an endo expert from a BSGE centre. But to be referred to a BSGE centre you need a diagnosis, which can only happen via a key hole surgery, which you probably won’t get because (as I understand) it’s the first time you have this pain!

Period pain without periods is a symptom of endometriosis and adenomyosis (and I don’t think much else!)

Do not let your Dr tell you it’s nothing or in your head!!! But it is true that you might have to go through many cycles of pain to convince the Dr that it is cyclical and more than a bother.

Good luck 🎗

Thanks for the reply can the pill help with the pain to stop it progressing further untill I get a diagnosis

in reply to LISaprag

It may help with the pain and the progression but it will only mask it, so if you do feel relief, be careful when you say it to your GP as he will take it that you’re sorted and his job is done when really it’s only a plaster!

I’m afraid endometriosis is a chronic condition and while excision by laparoscopy will remove the disease that has grown, it will come back if its origin is retrograde menstruation or if a little bit of endo lesion is left to grow again.

There is no long-term cure.

It’s important to note as well that the progression of the disease is not related to the amount of pain felt so one superficial lesion might cause a lot of pain while a severe case might go unnoticed. All cases are different.

There are steps you can take to improve your long-term management: a healthy living is the key (or so I am told) to reduce symptoms, this includes a healthy diet, supplements, exercise, stress-free, etc.

Good luck

Hi LISaprag,

If your pain persists, perhaps you may want to keep a pain and symptoms diary and show it to the doctor: endometriosis-uk.org/sites/...

If you suspect endometriosis, feel free to find more about it in this leaflet: endometriosis-uk.org/sites/...

There is a lot more information on Endometriosis UK website (endometriosis-uk.org) if you feel like learning more at some point.

Hope this helps,

Ugne

I would suggest that a one off occurrence of this pain could be caused by a number of different things and I suggest you go to see your gp. Period -like pains in your back can be a kidney infection for example. Endometriosis is a chronic condition. With any luck you just have some kind of infection that will either clear up by itself or be able to be cleared up with straightforward treatment. It’s very soon to be suspecting endo after one week’s pain and I really hope it is something more straightforward xx
