Worse Pain Since Laparoscopy

Hi I was just wondering if people have suffered more severe pain since their surgery. I had a laparoscopy, hysteroscopy and ablation on 21 September and recovered well. This is my first period and a week before and now during I am having severe pain down my left side through my groin and down my left leg with pain in both kidney areas, so much worse than I have had before! I have severe endometriosis and frozen pelvis so no surgery was done to remove anything.

Hi there

Sorry to hear you're in so much pain! In answer to your question, yes, since my lap last month I've had two of the worst periods I've had in my life. During the last one I suffered the most excruciating pain I've ever felt. I was literally unable to move and I was shaking with the shock of the pain. My partner was so worried about me that he took the day off work. Like you, none of my endometriosis adhesions were removed during the lap because it was diagnostic...the only thing the surgeon did was remove an endocervical polyp.

I still don't feel I've fully recovered from the surgery even though it was on 8th September. I have odd pains and discomfort in my abdomen which I didn't have before the lap, especially when I go to the toilet (been told I have endometriosis pretty much everywhere, but it's especially bad around the bowel) and I'm still very bloated...it gets worse as the day progresses. My skin is still very sensitive and itchy around my incisions and I still haven't gained full flexibility...crouching down makes me feel light-headed and I can't fully twist around. I feel tired all the time.

I'm assuming that because the organs were moved around a bit during the op they take a while to settle down again. I never appreciated how badly I would feel though, especially since nothing was done. I'm hoping that as more time passes I'll start feeling like I'm getting back to 'normal', by which time I'll probably be ready for the next round of surgery and here we go again!!!

I really do hope you feel better soon and I hope something can be done to treat your endometriosis given how severe it is...it must be very painful for you.
