DECAPEPTYL - coming off

Hi everyone

I was started on the decapeptyl injections (monthly) in May 2017 (diagnosed with endometriosis in 2016 - details in other posts).

After worrying about the side effects, I've actually found the injections really helpful - I don't think I realised how much pain I was in everyday until these injections. My pain had been significantly reduced, along with improvements in my other endometriosis symptoms. I have suffered with quite a few side effects (hit sweats, joint pain, poor sleep, oily skin etc) however they became more manageable. I decided not to take any HRT.

I am now due my last injection tomorrow. I have been offered the chance to have the injections for upto 2 years because it has been so successful. However, my fiancé and I want to start a family in the near future so I will not be having any more injections from tomorrow and no other hormonal treatment.

I would just like to know from similar situations how long it took for your menstrual cycle to start again? And did the endometriosis symptoms return quickly?

Thank you in advance

Lauren

I would not advise taking this hormone unless you absolutely have to. I was prescribed three courses of this hormone and it got worse and worse with each course, symptom include normal symptoms of endo but heightened in the first week. also nausea. Maybe it is also a personality thing and personal disposition ( I am a little anxious as a person), however, I had terrible mood swings, severe depression, suicide ideation, paranoia, and conflicts with pretty much everyone I know. You do not feel yourself at all. The weight went up and down and was unable to remember anything unless I wrote it down. I lost verbal fluency for a bit (experienced 'tip of the tongue' phenomena all the time, in English and my native language) I missed meetings which I usually never do because I seemed to remember that I had a meeting and would get ready and leave the house, then I will head to the library open the computer, look at the calendar, and assume it is a different day than it was (everything was very blurry and confusing). Pretty hard to explain that state. The plus side you do not have symptoms of endo whilst you take the hormone. Endo is also is substantially depleted when you finish the course. I feel much better now. Also the endo decreased in volume according to scans so it is saving fertility. So, all in all it was all worth it, but it was perhaps the worst few months of my life. I think it is also, better to take time off whilst you are taking this hormone. I also used to zone out. and my boyfriend told me I would do something without responding to him and then he would tell me you were on the computer writing something and did not respond to me for a long time. I would not have a recollection of that.

menstrual cycle returns within 50 to 60 days after finishing the course.
