recent diagnosis of Endometriosis

Hi all,

I'm Katie and im 23 years old.

Last week I had a diagnostic laparoscopy and the surgeon found mild endometriosis on my bladder and uterus. I actually cried with relief when she told me, as I knew in my gut that something was wrong with my body, and I had already been tested for so many other things. She didn't tell me whether it explained my bad period pain and painful sex, but I'm assuming that its linked?

She also didn't talk to me about fertility either, and now I'm absolutely petrified about it. My left Fallopian tube was 'slightly inflamed' but no endometriosis was found on it, and I'm also worried that it will come back and I will have to go through that procedure again. It was worse than I thought and I reacted badly to the anesthesia with a fast heart rate and low blood pressure so had to stay in hospital over night. I also felt really faint and short of breath the week following the op.

I'm not allowed on the combined pill but I was advised to take the mini-pill, to relieve my symptoms further and prevent the endometriosis from growing, but I'm scared to take this as I've got such regular periods and don't want to mess them or my hormones up, but at the same time I don't want the endo to come back :(

It's left me feeling a bit low and stressed, not knowing what choice to make. My main concern is my fertility, though.

x

Hey Katie,

I’m sorry to hear you’ve been diagnosed with endo but a little positive is at least you know and can manage it, you have relief too now after all the worry, sending you hugs. Stay strong beaut.xx

Painful sex and bad period pain can be linked, the nurses also said over and over to me you’re not crazy pain is not normal. And so among loads of other symptoms this can be linked with endo. That’s not saying it always is.

Ok, so fertility I think is case by case and you will need to ask them about this. I got told I need to have a little one in 1 - 3 years but don’t panic, I’m an older bird at 30, hence the case by case😊. There are loads of ways to help us, so keep positive on this one and make sure they give you advice etc on this.

It’s an emotional rollercoaster beaut, the options we have to manage the disease is small but the docs need to sit and advise you appropriately to you and your case.

I have the mirena coil, which I’m getting used to because the bleeding is random but it is also known to stop periods or make them a lot lighter after a couple of months. If that’s also no good the Doctors will be able to tell you what else there is.

I hope that helps a little bit lovely, here if you have anymore questions or having a bad day. It’s what we’re here for in here.

It’s hard but you are doing amazing. Stay strong😘😘.xxxx

Thank you!! X

yes it's definitely a relief for us, that we weren't going crazy and that finally things were taken seriously. Yes I think I need to have a chat with my surgeon as she didn't go through much with me. I did read up though that the endo can come back after around 2 years so perhaps that's why they asked you to try conceive in that period, before the endo may creep up again?

You're right that it's an emotional rollercoaster. I was advised the mirena coil aswell, but if anything I may try the mini pill, as irregular periods are a lot less stressful than worrying about the endo coming back!

Thanks so much for your kind words, and same to you, take care xxx

Maybe Hun, that makes sense, I knew it could come back just not sure how quick. Thank you for letting me know that 😊.

I hear you on the a lot less stressful, exactly the same thing I said to the nurse.

Take care too lovely.xxx
