Endo & future fertility

Hi all

I saw my consultant for the first time this week and he agreed with my GP re suspected endo and that I need to have a lap, which he said he will do next month.

A friend of a friend, who has also suffered with endo, has recommended I look into having a blood test that indicates egg count, and look into getting my eggs frozen. Has anyone else been through this, and at what stage did you start this process? I am 30, currently single but would like to think children are in my future at some point.

Thanks xxx

Hi there,

I was due to start ivf and in the appt to start I found out I have advanced endo. I am seeing endo consultant on Tuesday so will ask them. I had my amh bloods done and luckily I have eggs which is a miracle ☺. I will ask question about freezing eggs etc too. I would definitely ask your consultant or gp to take bloods for amh. Take care x

Thankyou, all the best too xx

I would wait until after your lap to even start thinking about that kind of thing. Just take it one step at a time, no need to count your chickens just yet. Simply having endo doesn't mean your fertility will be affected. If your ovaries and Fallopian tubes are affected by endo then your may have fertility issues. I've suffered from infertility due to endo on my tubes but have had the endo removed from them and I should be able to conceive naturally soon (haven't started trying to conceive again yet, just letting my body heal from surgery).

Thanks very much for taking the time to respond. I guess I was just wondering if it's a question I have to ask beforehand, but I won't panic myself just get.. one step at a time, like you say! Good luck when you start trying!x

After TTC for 5 years and 10 months with unexplained infertility it was eventually endometriosis was diagnosed and treated and despite my ripe old age of 35 I conceived first month of trying after it was treated!!! For us it was the only cause of our infertility everything else was as it should be. I do have low amh levels but I do ovulate regularly. Very sadly I did lose the pregnancy very early on but after 6 years of periods and negative Pregnancy tests it was huge progress and a comfort to us we could conceive naturally and are awaiting on an appointment with our fertility consultant to discuss miscarriage investigations. Your future Fertility will depend on many factors and your specialist will advise you better on this. Its positive it's been found. Good luck xoxo

Whilst I encourage you to stay positive it is sensible to explore the risks from the beginning. I had 2 surgeries to remove endo from ovaries (as well as bladder bowel and cervix) and had one tube removed due to damage from endo. I was told this would improve fertility. I now have more endo cysts and doc won't operate as will further reduce fertility (i have low AMH), has recommended I have IVF asap (have been TTC since last surgery in Feb). I wish I had known more from the beginning. Now found adenomyosis and outlook not great. I would definitely consider freezing eggs if I were you. Each surgery may reduce your egg count, and you don't know how many you may need before you are ready to start your family. Good luck!
