I have a diagnostic laparoscopy scheduled next month for my suspected endometriosis. I've been very lucky and my consultant has been brilliant, did an examination and recommended the surgery straight away. I had an ultrasound which showed 3 cysts on my right ovary, the report said that these are simple cysts and nothing to worry about. Under the examination my consultant said that my ovary was larger than he would of expected and that I have a titled womb?
I feel really silly, at the time I should of asked so many more questions than I did but it was so much to take in. I was wondering whether anyone could advise me on;
- the recovery period and how long I will, if any I will be off work? And what's your experience with recovery?
- how long does the op take?
- as I'm having the laparoscopy, would they consider removing "simple cysts"?
And lastly, if anyone has any recommendations on what I should take with me on the day and for the few days at home after that would be great I'm thinking I'll need to get all my comfy clothes out!

Hi. I recently had this done. The op shouldn't last more than an hour, and yes they can remove cysts if they're able too. It's normally a day case, take something with you to read whilst waiting to go down for surgery. Definitely comfy clothes, not a tight waistband. And a nightshirt for once your home. You don't really need to take much to hospital, go in comfy clothes, then just come home in them. Maybe flipflops/sandals to walk to theatre in. A sanitary towel for after surgery. A bottle of water for the car journey home. At home have peppermint tea to help ease the bloat and gas pains, oh and also walk around as much as possible at home.
You will go for a pre op and they will advise you / answer any questions you have. They say 10-14 days recovery but again, depends what happens in surgery and on how you recover after.
Hope I've been a little help but ask away if you need too and I'll try help
