Sex after laparoscopy...

Ok so I had a laparoscopy on Wednesday (9days ago) and I only have one small incision wound and the belly button one. They didn't find anything.

Tonight my husband and I got intimate and it was honestly agony. I am still in pain now at least like half hour later. I mean, I often have pain during sex but I felt like he was ripping my stomach open.

Is this normal with the surgery? Has any one else experienced it?

Please and thank you!

I'm day 8 past and we were about to attempt but every position was very painful so we stopped even before the act.. I also talked to my aunt about this the other day (who has had numerous laps) and she experienced similar things. I think it's normal. I believe the minimum healing is about 2 weeks and you may still be sore after.

Depending on your surgeon, they may have used a uterine manipulator and that can cause a lot of extra pain down and swelling there.

If it's really concerning to you try to get in touch with a doctor. I hope you feel better soon x

Even if nothing was removed you have stil had abdominal surgery so really your body is still healing. I think the advice is usually to wait for about a month before having sex after a laparoscopy.

My advice would be to give yourself time to recover and then see how you're feeling. If the pain during intercourse persists after this then go back to yourself your doctor.

Hope you feel better soon x

Hi,

I had lap 2 weeks ago and tried on the 9th day but didnt allow full penetration & I was ok. I have waited 2 weeks before going full on penetration & just taking it slowly. I was ok, jst a few little niggles that went after abit and didnt need pain killers. Think you just need to take it easy and build it back up. Good luck ☺

I think I was recommended to leave it 2 weeks after my diagnostic and cyst removal, tried after 3 and a half with a similar experience to you. I couldn't get a speculum in me at the GP either. Yes it is very normal I really don't know why they don't recommend leaving it for at least 4 or 5 weeks ( perhaps because they're men and don't experience it first hand!).

This pdf describes the body's natural internal healing process, which can take up to 12 weeks and involves early inflammation which will likely be the cause of your pain.
