Pain after coil

Hi everyone, I had a mirena coil fitted 2 weeks ago, at the same time as having a negative laparoscopy, I have since recovered fine from the op and had been having period pains from the coil but not horrendous, however starting yesterday I have been in agony with pain today being even worse I feel like I can barely walk around and yesterday I took some of my left over morphine from the op and it did help but the pain was still there. Paracetamol is not even touching the sides!!

Can anyone maybe recommend any good painkillers? A couple of my friends have the coil one had no problems whatsoever and the other said the pain is likely to last 6 months (my doctor told me about 2 months) Can anyone also share any experiences of how bad and how long your pain lasted? I can't be like this for 6 months!

I don't know if it makes any difference but I've also been told to keep taking my pill for the first couple months until the pain/bleeding settles down, I'm due to have my period at the end of my pill packet over the weekend. I haven't had any bleeding as of yet although I think it has started a bit today.

Thanks for any advice! X

I had a coil fitted while having endo removed by a laparoscopy...I was fine for three weeks and then the pain came back, I'm going back going though tests and looking like it's still endo. You should go back to your gp x

I had the coil about 4/5 weeks ago after having open surgery/bowel surgery for endo.. very painful for the first 2 weeks, wasn't sure whether that was recovery from the op or the coil. Pain stopped, and I had my first period 4 days ago.. and the pain comes in waves. Only 3/4 times a day it feels as though it erupts from inside and goes through my whole body. Got my follow up and coil check tomorrow 🙌🏽

Hi. I've had my coil for little over a year now. I had really bad pains after having mine fitted. After seeing my GP she told me they could last up to 6 months. I'm still getting pain every so often. Pain killers dont do anything for me. The only thing that seems to help is heat. I use heat pads and hot water bottles but when it gets really bad i use deep heat. It's a life saver for me so try that.

Hope this helps x

Hi, have checked for the threads? If you get very bad pain, it's good to check that the coil is still in the right position. Just occasionally they travel and apparently that's very painful.

You should be able to feel a couple of flexible wires coming out of your cervix. Good hunting.

oh really? i think you replied to another post of mine actually because i was struggling to find my threads, have tried about 5 times and cannot feel anything unless i'm being really thick but it just feels like skin in there no wire like things! I wonder if it is that then, I mentioned it to my GP when i was there recently and she seemed unbothered like it wasn't an issue and just said to leave it and wait until my 6 week check x

I'd ask the practice nurse to check for you. No need to leave it six weeks.

Hi again - thought I would return the favour! I had coil fitted after my op and I don't think it suited me, hard to tell if it was infection after my op or if it was coil but seems to have stopped since it's been out! I ended up going to a&e a few times as it literally was like no pain I had ever experienced in my life - couldn't of even imagined birth being that painful. keep an eye on it! regular ibuprofen helped me at the time! Co-codamol if severe x

this is exactly the same as me haha! how strange! i've been in so much pain a few times, where i can only lie on the floor for hours and can't breathe it's so intense!! have almost gone to hospital a couple of times as didn't know what else to do, but managed to not go! How long did you have it in before you called it quits? I have naproxen it helps quite well X

3 months! I was the same I couldn't breathe. The cramping was like my insides where being carved out! I couldn't move! x
