Fertility problems

Hi.

I've recently been diagnosed with endometriosis - I am only 17 but having read up on it I am concerned that I will have fertility problems, I am in a serious relationship and kids have always been an option for us one day. Just wondered if anyone could give me any advice really.

Hi, it's an individual thing as it is with everything but I know a few people with endometriosis who have had children no bother, I know of one couple that needed some help and monitoring but then I also know others with no endo and had to have several rounds of IVF before falling pregnant. I wouldn't let it worry you just now until you're trying and you think there is an issue. Or alternatively you can start asking the questions now with your consultant or gp going on what your current situation looks like. Endo doesn't necessarily mean no kids - I was actually told to have a child for some relief of symptoms which I took as a joke but people seriously get told that! Of course it's a temporary relief. I have endometriosis and I've been told there are no concerns with me having a child if I wanted one although that's something I've chosen not to do, so basically, you can ask some questions now or wait until you're planning but try not to worry!

It really depends what type of endo, where, and how bad and what treatments you decide on but its not necessarily nearly as bad as you may think.This may be a useful link to read. It's a peer reviewed US site

That has definitely helped a lot. I know I shouldn't be worrying at a young age but because it is something I plan on having in the future there's no time like the present to get some information on it.

Hello, just want to say I am so glad they caught this early for you! I was very young when diagnosed & had two laparoscopy's since!

I questioned this! The more you read the more upset you cause yourself, unfortunately it happens I done it. I'm 24 and I still question this.

On experience, I have regular check ups, and have on occasions gone to a sexual health clinic and so has my partner. This isnt because either of us have been unfaithful, but they check for BV as well, not a STI but if my partner has it or I do we just exchange it and it can cause complications like infections easily!

For reassurance, my sisters friend has endometriosis and PCOS, she has two healthy boys, and drs were just watchful during the pregnancy, however had no complications!
