I had my laparoscopy on 30th June and had dissolvable stitches in my belly button & my bikini line.
I was told to get them out after 10 days if they hadn't dissolved so I went to the nurse and she took out the bikini line ones and said the ones in my belly button had already dissolved but when I got home I realised it was still there.
I was back at the doctors a few days later so went to the nurse and she tried to get the belly button stitches out but really struggled as it's so deep and said they would dissolve in time but I'm just wondering how much time?
I can still feel and see the stitches easily and they don't seem to be dissolving at all and it's now been 3 weeks since my surgery

I'm sorry to hear that was your experience. I had to have mine removed from my belly button and the left abdominal side wound after they hadn't disolved after 2 weeks. I then found another 2 stitches 2 weeks later (4 weeks post surgery) typically they fell out the morning I saw my nurse but I just wanted it to be looked at to be sure it was ok. The nurse at my practice said it can take up to 6 weeks to disolve. If it's red painful or weeping get medical help asap other than try not to worry xoxo
Reassure yourself they take up to a few months to dissolve especially if there deep in your belly button. You could lay I. The bath with water over to soften them a little. But as people have said if the area is normal colour and no heat, swelling or discharge leave them. I'm a nurse who used to work on a surgical ward so don't worry.
