Hi guys, had my first laparoscopy and no endometriosid was found, typical haha I just knew that would happen!! I was really disappointed at first because I just wanted to know a cause for all my problems, however they did say I have a retroverted uterus which i'm guessing does explain some of my issues, and realistically is better than endo.
So i've googled a little but i'm pretty clueless about retroverted uterus, and also surprised it has never been mentioned before to me! So I was wondering if anyone else here has it and could tell me what it affected for you and how you've ended up treating it? For my own example I suffer with frequent bad period pains even when not on, I bleed often and irregularly (up to a month sometimes) even when on the pill, sex is completely painful for me and I have really bad back problems so those are my main problems.
I've had a mirena fitted which they said should help over the next few months once settled, and if no improvement then I can have ventrosuspension to stitch up/move the womb to the correct place.
Any comments would be really interesting and helpful! Thanks guys xx

I have Stage 4 endo and a retroverted uterus. I've always assumed it was my endo that caused my uterus to be retroverted because my uterus was stuck to my bowel.
I'm not sure it causes me any particular issues but it's hard to tell because the endo does so it would be difficult to isolate this as a cause of pain/symptoms xxx
yeah i'm trying to read about it all but i seem to be finding that's the retroverted uterus is because of or linked to endo? which i'm confused then how do i have this but without the endo? did they tell you yours is caused from the endo then or do you just think that's the case? thanks for your reply xx
Hi, my understanding is that it is fairly common to have a retroverted uterus and in itself not necessarily a problem. It just describes the angle at which the uterus is positioned within the abdomen. However the wiki page says it can be the cause of painful sex and painful period. Maybe that's the case for you?
I have one too, but as I also have endo it's hard to disentangle the two.
yeah i'm reading up on it and i can't seem to find it linking to most of my symptoms which is why i'm confused? and my doctor seemed to make out like it was a fairly minor problem, just confused really as i have every symptom for endo and was so convinced it was that, even the doc i saw prior to my op seemed certain they would find it. retroverted uterus only seems to say painful sex be the only thing i can relate too, just confused and struggling to find much info on it really as nobody else seems to have suffered much with just that by itself! like you said everyone seems to have to two connected probably one as a result of the other!
Endometriosis is often really hard to diagnose as the symptoms generally over-lap with other problems like ibs or cistitis and plenty of gynea issues like pcos, fibroids, cancers ect. There is no strictly endometriosis symptoms. Depending on your symptoms ie. Bowel/bladder/gynae youre probably best ruling everything out. No Dr can diagnose through symptoms as symptoms are non specific! If you do have bowel/bladder problems, youre best seeing a Urologist, colorectal surgeon ect ect....
I know this is an old post but I'm in the same boat! Wasn;t even told I had a retroverted uterus bc it was apparently insignificant yet I thought, once they said, that it would for sure be endo pulling it down but my lap on Friday came back clear and I'm gutted. What are you doing now in terms of treatment? x
it's so confusing! they told me one minute the retroverted uterus could possibly be causing all my problems, but then that it was really common and 1 in 10 women have it and it barely causes any problems, so what does that mean?! well it's been over 4 months since i had my op where mirena coil was inserted, and god it was actual hell for a couple of months everything was so much worse, and then all of a sudden it got better and i actually didn't get a period, but the 'getting better' has only improved from the hell back to where i was originally. I should've got my follow up appointment by now as they said 4 months but i've heard nothing, going to have to call them and arrange an appointment! what treatment are you having?X
I was just sent home and told not to bother persuing it anymore bc there wasn't anything wrong and put on the GaPP2 trial for pelvic pain, which sucks, so going to ask about adenomyosis and stick on Cerazette a little longer x
that's awful!! what is GaPP2? and yeah i'm going to ask about adenomyosis too as it's never even been mentioned to me about that i only know of it through my own research, but i'm worried i haven't got my appointment in case they've actually discharged me without saying! X
oh i've never heard of it!! i have naproxen which they gave me when the pain from the coil was so excruciating! So bad they thought it had got lost yay! haha X
I was offered the coil but said no, scared that they'd say they couldn't treat me further bc I said no but I heard that the coil and retroverted uterus doesn't mix well and I wasn't prepared for trying it out lmao!
How long have you been on it? I don't like the idea of it and having to make an appointment to get it taken out when it's essentially teh same thing as progesterone only! My mum swears by it and can't believe I won't have it haha
yeah for some people it totally solves everything and i know people that haven't had a problem since the day they got it but others who have had hell, i've had it for almost 5 months. And they've cut the strings too short meaning i can't get it easily removed i'll probably have to go the hospital and have another hysteroscopy to get it out!x
