Referral to Gynaecologist

Hi,

I've finally been referred to the gynaecologist. I know they'll be doing an examination, but I'm wondering what else they will do and what to expect, when I'm there.

Will I be able to take some pain medicine before I go? Or are you not allowed? The exams always hurt and make me sick so taking the medication might help.

Thank you

I am sure you can take pain killer before hand. I had several gynae exams. I personally found them not painful at all, much better than smear tests. I even joked about paying the consultant to do future smear tests. That didn't go well 😅

Take a list of symptoms and questions with you. Quickly go over them before they show you the door. If possible take someone with you as you are likely to forget half the stuff they said.

Try not to worry too much. All the best.

Do you mean an internal exam?

I have very bad pain and to be honest my Gyno is amazing wth it. He never puts me in the position of too much pain, he just examines enough to see where the pain starts etc. I always cry because it's very uncomfortable but they won't put you through too much is what I mean to say.

Always look on the positive. They are just trying to find how to help you so showing them it hurts like crazy is good.... as they know you are actually in a lot of pain! :)

Hiya at my gynocologist appointment I had built myself up for all sorts to happen ! Even turned up a day early as I was so nervous.

When I went there was no exams, none, he just asked me my symptoms and read the notes from my file and then discussed the option of a diagnostic lap which would be done as a day surgery case, this is what I opted to have done to see if I can get some answers altho he did say only 50% of women who get the lap are actually diagnosed with endo.

My appointment was 24th may and my lap is booked for 12th July x

Mine did something called pain mapping during an exam. Didn't use a speculum as I told them the pain would be quite bad. We then chatted through options for diagnosis/treatment - I was told I could go with having the coil and assume I had endo, or book the lap to diagnose/treat endo. I went with the lap which I had on Wednesday.
