Hi I was wondering If endometriosis can effect smears I had mine done the day and the nurse said she had never seen a smear like it!! I was very red and inflamed!! I have had abnormal smear results in the past and had these cells burnt away!! Hoping some one can help! The nurse made me an appointment with my gp and told me she would have a word with the gp before my appointment!!

Hi. I would go to your local GUM clinic as they specialise in all sorts of services including smears and would be better equipped than your GP to identify what is going on. The nurse sounds insensitive and clueless.
That was an awful thing for the nurse to say.
It is probably cervical ectropion, i found out that I had it after reading my medical file a couple of years ago, apparently they treated it without telling me when I was under having my endo removed. I asked my existing consultant and she told me it probably would have been caused by heavy periods and it is common in people with endo.

What is cervical ectropion?
Cervical ectropion (also known as cervical erosion and ectopy) is a common condition caused
when cells from inside the cervical canal, known as glandular cells (soft cells), are present on
the outside surface of the cervix (neck of the womb).
The area where the soft cells meet the squamous epithelial cells (hard cells), which are those
found on the outer surface of the cervix, is called the transformation zone. If a woman has
cervical ectropion, it can be seen by the nurse during a cervical screening test (smear test) and
the area appears red (because soft cells are red).
Cervical ectropion can be caused by hormonal changes, pregnancy and being on the pill.
It is not linked to the development of cervical cancer or any other condition that causes cancer.

Agree with others she sounds very unprofessional and given you have had cells removed before that would be on you notes babe so no way she should've been making comment like that and terrifying you further tor666 brilliant detailed response. When you seeing doc? As had it been the case she had never seen a smear like it one she shouldn't have said anything and two you would've been sent to doc to wait to see her so pls don't worry, insentistuve Madame is what she sounds like: take care and hope you tell doc what she said and how she made you feel she should be getting trouble xxxx
