I was prescribed mefenamic yesterday evening. I just wondered how long they take to work and if they're any good? I need to get back to work ASAP. Thanks all x

It works quickly but is a short term solution. It'll help you get back to work.

They work like any other painkiller, within about 15 mins. They are the best anti-inflammatory for endometriosis and gynae problems.

Haven't worked for me, but everyone's different! Naproxen is defo good to try if you haven't but I find that only helps for a couple of days x

Hi it used to help me but they can cause gastric irritation like brufen so be aware of this. I have gastritis (get reflux etc) as I have used mefanamic acid and brufen long term. Good luck xx

I take them on my first few days of my period. They help more than regular painkillers but be sure to take them with food as they can upset your stomach.

Make sure you take them three times a day with food, otherwise you'll get horrid stomach pains and reflux. They aren't kind on the stomach. I take them but I can't honestly say if they make a difference.

Others who take it, do you take it all the time or only during times of pain?

sorry I only just replied, im taking it at the moment as im in pain, but im also hoping it may help with the heavy bleeding when it comes. not convinced its helping the pain atm though.

Hi I took them for a couple of years and then they stopped having an effect like I had become immune to them normally start working pretty quickly but unfortunately what works for one doesn't work for another and it's just trial and error finding what works best for each individual xx

I was on them for a while, they didn't do much for me. But it really is different for different people. Hopefully it does for you. Good luck! X
