Diagnosed yesterday

Hi All,

I'm feeling a little lost. Yesterday I was diagnosed with endometriosis. My consultant said it is extensive. It's in my cervix, bowel, my ovary has a 2 inch chocolate cyst and is attached to my pelvis. It's also strangulating my ureter. I'm being referred to a specialist - [edited to comply with our code of conduct]. It's difficult to get my head around. I've suspected I've had it for years but my old GP just dismissed it each time I raised it. I'm angry with myself for not being assertive enough with him and I'm terrified that I'll never be able to conceive. X

The best thing you can do is make an appointment to see your specialist for a follow-up appointment to discuss treatment options and you can then ask specific questions about your fertility.

It's well known that it takes ages to get an endo diagnosis, so don't be angry about that, channel that energy into finding on what that means for you and your fertility x

Hi Lindsay, sorry to hear about it but don't blame yourself. Most people don't get diagnosed for years and it's hard to get it sorted. I'm sure there will be someone else on this board in the same situation who can give advice.

I have my laparoscopy on Monday and am scared like you. I haven't had any diagnosis yet.

Really hope you get the support you need and I will be happy to share any helpful stories once I've been to my surgery.

From reading lots of stuff on here, I think getting a good consultant seems to be key. Hopefully this person can help you through.

Hi. It's a lot to take in all at once, do you have support around? I was told out of the blue in sept and im still trying to figure it out.

Don't waste your energy being angry with yourself it's a battle to get a diagnosis from what I've read and your better trying to find ways to make your daily life as comfortable as possible. Hope you get your appointment through quickly and give them a ring if it's taking a while mine got delayed due to a problem with paperwork. Good luck
