Hi I've been sick as a dog with a full monty flu bug for two weeks now with a bad cough. I'm worried as i had my bloods for surgery yesterday for my op in13 days time and don't want to have to delay my surgery having finally psyched myself to face it. Is a flu bug something that can stop an operation happening?

Flu seems lasted a bit longer than normal. Maybe checking with GP for bacteria infection. You may have to check with the consultant PA regarding fitness for surgery. It is best to be safe than sorry.
Hope you can recover soon for the operation.
Check it out with either your GP soon and then liaise with the pre-op staff. Genuine flu, rather than a bad cold that people often label flu mistakenly (colds can make a person feel dreadful so I can see why it happens but when real flu hits there's no mistaking the difference and how terrible you truly feel) but real flu does tend to be a good two-week affair and a bad cough can linger on and on. You do need to check that your cough hasn't turned into a chest infection. Are you coughing up anything nasty? If so you might need antibiotics. Antibiotics will not help if that isn't the case. A cough can be a stopper as it affects airway management. Much better not to go ahead then risk having complications. Do explain fully to staff when you call to make any appointments - they don't tend to like people with transferable illnesses coming in to a surgery and will advise on best course of action. So very sorry that this has happened to you and I hope you recover soon. Just think that it's better safe then sorry.
All the best
