I have been on the progesterone only mini pill for nearly a month now and been having spots of breakthrough bleeding almost every day and actually started a period today with the cramps and everything as well. I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this and does it tend to settle down after a while?

Does breakthrough bleeding on mini pill settle down?
Hi, just wondering how comes your on just a progesterone pill. Did you have a hormone blood test done?
Hi, no I didn't have a hormone test, I think it's because I have both endometriosis and adenomyosis which have become more extensive recently which are signs that I have oestrogen dominance. Therefore, this indicates I have low progesterone and high oestrogen in comparison with each other. I have researched this and found out that too much oestrogen alongside low progesterone makes endo worse, as a result both the consultant and I wanted to avoid taking anything with oestrogen in it. Thanks for bringing this up though, I think I will consider having a hormone test done just to confirm the above.
Just to add that I am 42 years old so I think I am in the perimenopause when it is thought that progesterone levels are declining whereas oestrogen levels remain stable or increase so hopefully these pills will counteract that.
It took about 6 months for mine to settle down, but 3 years in it's great. No pain, no periods. Once in a blue moon I have a breakthrough bleed but it's minimal and painless. Stick with it, a lot of people give up in it too soon I think.
Thanks ElsieC, it's good to know that it is worth waiting to see whether it settles down. I find what you have said reassuring and I appreciate it.
