Understanding Lap Results?

Hi all,

This is my first post. I had my first Lap nearly 4 weeks ago. Recovering really well now although the first few weeks were horrible.

I've just had a letter through about my lap as I didn't have time to talk to the surgeon afterwards. They found endometriosis on the uterosacrals, ovarian fossae, Pouch of Douglas and undersurface of both ovaries. They haven't said how severe it was but was treated with Helica.

I was hoping someone could help me understand what this means? I'm not due back to see the Gynae clinic for 3 months which is a long time to wait to understand.

Don't know whether to go talk to my GP. I'm debating trying to alter my diet to avoid endo coming back as I'm already taking birth control.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Meagan, glad you are beginning to feel better. Because of where your Endo is means you have stage 4 Endometriosis which is the most severe, however, the staging doesn't always reflect the level of pain one may experience. Some women with stage one (mild) can experience debilitating pain and some with stage 4 can be asymptomatic and be unaware anything is wrong. I, like you, have stage 4 and couldn't imagine being more incapacitated. The staging however does indicate which treatment pathway one should be treated under. It is not only imperative, but also recommended under NICE guidelines that you are seen at a BSGE centre, excision of the Endometriosis being the gold standard. Refer to Lindle posts on the treatment pathway and endometriosis on the uterosacral ligaments and you won't go far wrong. Best wishes x

Thanks a lot for the information. I didn't know that about the BSGE centre so I'll ask about it at my next appointment and I'll have a look at at the treatment pathway posts! Thanks :)

12 weeks is far too long to know what they found! By the time most of us actually get to the point of having our first laparoscopy we have already gone through so much already and are desperate to know the outcome.

Think I will go to the GP and see what they suggest in the mean time. The good news is the Lap seems to have really helped with the Endo pain. Just hope it stays like that!!!
