How long endo free after Lap?
Morning Wendy, I had my first lap in Aug last year and was pain free for 4 months, my Drs and gynaes reassured me it couldn't possibly have come back so soon.... But I know my body and I know the symptoms, so I've been put on different contraceptives (warned off the implant) for them to not work and I'm back on Celeste as I would rather just pain than full on bleeding that I had with Cerelle. The problem that we've all got is that Endo can be caused by 'hormones' like oestrogen (so I was told) and therefore hormone treatment is part of the package, or so it feels. I'm hoping to see Dr today for some more info (one year on and I still feel very much in the dark).
I had surgical excision and laser. I can't take hormone treatment due to high blood pressure. I got my period a few days after surgery and the pain was utterly horrendous. Over the months, as I started to heal, the pain from the surgery eased but Endo pain returned as bad as ever. I'm guessing it all depends on how severe Endo is. Mine was extensive (I think stage 4) and I don't think they managed to remove it all. From what I've researched, I'd have been in a far better position if I could have take the pill back to back for the first few months post-surgery to give the scarring time to heal. From what the consultant said it sounded like Endo was attaching itself to areas that hadn't had a chance to heal. With hindsight, I'd have refused surgery knowing that was a possibility as I became horrendously ill and it took over a year for my Endo symptoms to return to a level I'm used to. That said, without a laparoscopy there's no way of knowing how severe Endo is. Horrible catch 22.
I don't want to scare you, this is just my experience, but I would suggest arming yourself with as much advice as possible (which obviously you're trying to do) before surgery. If there's no medical reason for you not to take hormones I'd recommend getting advice from the consultant and others on here regarding experiences of just taking hormonal treatment for a few months after surgery to give your body time to heal.
Good luck. Xx
