I am scheduled for a hysterectomy as well (11 August) but I do not have to have chemo or radiotherapy. That is usually to treat cancer, have they found cancer? This is not standard after surgery for endometriosis. Are you being treated at a BSGE centre? I would suggest calling the consultant's secretary and asking her, you want to make sure you have all the facts going in.

Check out Lindle's posts on BSGE specialist centres - theses are consultants that are specially trained to deal with endometriosis. There are many General gynae consultants who have an interest in Endo they are not bsge accredited.

Chemo and radiotherapy would not be given to treat endometriosis. Have you had biopsies taken before?

Sorry hope that helps a bit xx

Hi there. I had a full hysterectomy 7 days ago and I haven't needed radio or chemo, this was never mentioned.

I was very worried before the surgery as I had a long history of endo and was told before the surgery it was going to take a couple of hours due to expected complications. It ended up taking the best part of 4 hours because of some additional unexpected complications.

I didn't go to a specialist centre to get the surgery done but a private hospital. My surgeon was a specialist endo surgeon and had been instrumental in setting up the centres, although didn't work in them.

I must say there are so many horrendous stories that you can read I the Internet and I was worried about almost anything that could have gone wrong from ending up with a stoma to losing all sense of sexual function and feeling. To be honest though even though there were many complications I have managed to be out of hospital within 48 hours of the surgery and all of my remaining anatomy works just fine.

Try not to worry and be positive. I do think you should explore the chemo and radio treatment as that may suggest other medical issues.

Hope you're ok.

Susan
