Scared I'll lose my job

Hello all, another day, another bout of endo pain. Today is one of those days where it's so bad I'm having to be off work. I'm starting to panic though, my work have been amazing so far about it but my sickness record is getting quite bad (off for at least one day a month). I'm really panicking that they may sack me. At the end of the day, they have a business to run and I am probably classed as an unreliable employee. I work so hard for them and I love my job, I didn't ask for this condition. U try to brave it out as much as I can but some days I just cry and cry and can't get out of bed. Nothing I've tried is helping the pain and I'm at a total loss of what to do 😔

I have to say you may well be covered under the Equality Act 2010 (which replaced the disability discrimination act and widened/broadened the criteria for inclusion).

It may also be worthwhile asking if you can 'build' time so on good days stay an extra half hour (which is what I do) so when the bad days come, you can take the day off without too much worry.  If they've not got a flexitime policy in place, ask if they would consider this (which they have to consider under law although they do not have to implement).  Another consideration is maybe work from home - obviously I don't know the type of work you do but is this possible on days you're not well enough to come in - believe it or not, I don't think one day a month is excessive given that you're entitled to 1 to 2 days per month annual leave (depending on your firm's calculations).  Have a word with them as they so far seem to have been very understanding - if you show you're willing to work with them to mitigate any absences, they may well give you more flexibility.

Regards

Thank you for your reply, I already stay late most days (I'm a vet receptionist/Animal Care Assistant) so I tend to stay later and am unable to work from home. They never say anything about me being off but I just don't want them getting fed up with me :( will have a chat with them I think

Honestly, I find employers more sympathetic when you discuss your concerns, particularly as you're being proactive about it. I think if you tell them how you feel, and explain you're trying to best to compensate where you can (i.e. working extra hours), they'll probably tell you not to worry...as I said, I don't think one day per month is excessive - maybe if it were several days, every couple of weeks or month I would be worried but not one/two days.
