Am I on the right track...?

Hi Ladies,

I would welcome your opinions...

Since my last post I have been referred by my gp to gynae.  With the choose and book option I chose a hospital I know has BSGE consultants. However the doctor I have been given an appointment with is a general gynae. My question is,  am I ok having an initial consultation with her,  then ask for BSGE referral should a lap be required or should I go back to my gp now? I have read @lindle post on treatment pathway i just want to confirm I am on the right path from the outset knowing what difficult times some of you have experienced.

Thank you x

Hi there is no harm in having your initial diagnostic lap with general gynaecologist. If you are then found to have endo especially severe endo your gynaecologist should then pass you on to a specialist. Or you could go back to GP now and say that you would prefer to be seen by a specialist initially and see what they say.

Thank you Jean you are always so supportive to everyone on here, we are lucky to have you!

So a general gynae is qualified to diagnose and perform excision as long as its not severe? If its found to be severe they should be hands off and refer you?

Apologies for needing an idiots guide. I just want to make sure i go armed with all the info i need.

Xx

Hi thank you so much for your kind words. I was very luck that I was initially referred to a specialist.. And personally that is what I would recommend. They are far more qualified and experienced to deal with any presentations of endo. I wish you all the luck in the world and if there is anything I can ever help you with please don't hesitate to ask.

Don't mind me butting in :)

I had a general gynae perform excision on me for stage 2 and he made me 10x worse with pain and didnt even touch half the problems because he couldn't do it.

I agree that there's nothing wrong with having an initial appointment with a general gynae, but I would push for a bsge after that and to do the laparoscopy if you need one, better safe than sorry!

I'm not totally sure, but I think you need a referral from a gynae to a bsge? Don't quote me on that though sorry.

At least then you know you are in capable hands and are minimising the risk of something going wrong.

Good luck , I hope it all goes well for you! Xx

Not butting in at all! I am so sorry to hear of your experience.  How are you now? Are you waiting for another lap? Thank you for your advice Megan I really appreciate it xx

Thank you Lindle . Your writing makes sense of it all, a much needed source when one is feeling so lost and vulnerable xx
