What foods set off endo bowel symptoms? Please let me know what you find sets you off!

Hi everyone!

It would be great if you could share which foods you find set off endo bowel symptoms? I'm having a hard time pinpointing what foods trigger my bowel symptoms and it's really causing me a problem! I know everyone is different but if you could let me know what you find causes you a problem I can then keep a lookout at how I feel after eating these foods and see if I can finally figure out which foods are a problem! Thanks in advance!! :)

spicy food, bread (it balls up and I feel it move through me like a bouncy ball), any meat but chicken, fruit and veg, trans-fats, deep-fried everything, dairy, basically anything can kick it off, my most perfect meal with no after effects is a bowl of beige xx

*I eat basic salad and chicken with cooked beetroot and coldslaw. I keep my lettuce to basic leaves (iceberg, romaine, mini-gem) as some of the fancier selections (spinach, rocket, coriander etc) taste funny in my mouth, and I have very little tummy trouble from it. I also only use low-fat salad cream (Heinz) the dressings are a mine field.

Hi,

For me every single solid food triggers pains in my bowels due to Endo.

I try to stick to liquids only but I cave in most times and solid foods.

I'm on a glutenfree DairyFree, soya free, red meat free, fibre free diet

I'm also on meal replacement drinks that I am prescribed by the dietitian.

Any meal that I fancy I just cook it and then blend like a thick soup and eat/drink it that way. I also eat baby food when I'm in a lot of pain and don't have energy to cook anything.

I now follow the "Naturally Sassy" book for my diet, all healthy super-foods used, no dairy/wheat/gluten/artificial sugar.

Dairy was a huge one to cut out for me, it was really difficult too - still is!

But I now have lots of substitutes, natural hot chocolate is one of my favourites - Coconut/Almond Milk, Raw Cacao, Agave :D

I have just bought a food intolerance test on wowcher, just send them some hair and a machine will let you know what foods disagree with you!

Until the results are in, I have found that cutting out caffeine and taking a probiotic helps.

I've noticed that white bread/pasta, caffeine, alcohol and too much chocolate upsets my stomach- so all the fun foods!

Exactly! If you like eating it, if you smile when you taste it, they are usually the first things to make you feel ill xx

Peppermint tea definitely helps though and a healthy diet x

I haven't found a mint or flavoured tea that I enjoy yet, I've been trying a different bag everyday for weeks. My diet is all over the shop, I try to eat clean as much as I can it's hard lol I love junk food too much :/ xx

Have you tried Pukka teas? They do some great flavours including mint. Their tea bags aren't bleached either which is an added bonus. X

U can try the Noni & Ginger tea bags they are great an caffeine free easy on the stomach an help with the nausea i love it so jus thought i'd share

I try and stick to a healty diet but when I'm due on I know I have to avoid beans and pulses like lentils and kidney beans as they cripple me with pain, also dried apricots don't agree with me, fresh ones are fine, Cream, too much dairy.

I had an intolerance test done a few years ago which showed I was intolerant to dairy so since then I always buy lactofree milk. It tastes just like normal milk as I don't like almond (too sweet) or soya. Just switching my milk on my cereals I find I can have the odd bit of cheese now and then and not be ill, although again, around my period I try to avoid dairy all together.

The intolerance test also showed I was intolerant to green grapes & white wine so I cut these out completely as wasnt to fussed about those.

Bread I tend to eat at weekend, the thought of cutting it out completely was impossible for me. Pasta we have rarely now which was the biggest one being married to an Italian, but he has found its really helped him cutting out pasta too.

It's so difficult to know what helps and hinders but if you can get an intolerance test done that will give you an idea of what you should avoid. However my gp advised it was quite dangerous to cut things out completely because if you did and then accidentally had it hidden in something you would end up twice as poorly. X

For me personally milk products set off intestinal symptoms, so I don't eat them. However, I suspect that's not directly caused by endo but that I'm lactose intolerant. As you said, it's different for everyone, but lactose intolerance is common throughout the world and so it may make sense for you to test this out. I haven't noticed any correlation between any other foods and endo pain.

I agree with other posters that it makes sense when experimenting with cutting out foods to pay attention to your overall nutrition and eat enough whole foods, including veggies.

K, so I've thought more about this question and I know I could have been more precise.

Peanuts (especially salted)

White Bread

Chocolate (in particular white)

Full fat milk

Natural yougarts

Fried foods

Processed meats

White Rice

Pizza

Spicy sausages (chorizo, cocktail sausages)

Curry although I do eat it coz I like it

Strong cheeses

Processed cheeses

Beef

*off the top of my head I can't think of any more right now.

Hun don't cut out anything until you've ate it at least 3 times and got pain consecutively, there are times I can eat and drink anything I want and it has no effect, its just a case of knowing your triggers and knowing to tread carefully xx
