Feeling very tired nearly two weeks after a laproscopy

Hi everyone

I had a hysteroscopy and a laproscopy 11 days ago. They found endometriosis. I'm still feeling extremely tired. I'm healing well apart from a smelly belly button (gross I know) but I feel completely exhausted despite resting has anyone else suffered this.

Hi, after my laparoscopy I was not too tired but the first time I was put under general anesthetic ( for a very minor surgery) I was really tired for two weeks so I think it could just be that. Also you have to think that even if you are resting , your body is busy with the healing process and that takes more energy than you might think. Hope you get better soon xxx

Hi Julieoolie,

Good to hear you're healing well!

I had mine on the 25th January so not long before you. I'm also healing quite well but yes I'm still rather tired too- I wouldn't say I am exhausted though and I have been back at work since the 1st February .

I had my post-op appointment on Tuesday and my consultant said that everything still needs to settle down in there and it will still be healing (internally) for some time to come.

Your smelly belly button comment got me thinking though, mine doesn't appear to smell-is it still sore? Could it be a little infected? That could definitely make you more tired if so, as your body will be fighting that too.

Remember though that we all heal differently and at different rates.

If you are concerned, do go to your doctor or even an NHS walk-in centre and just explain to them how you feel. They can do some blood tests and ensure things are as they should be.

All the best sister, take care,

Melissa

Thank you

I'm booked in to see my doctor today. I'm confused as to my belly button it's not red or sore just smelly so I'm wondering what that is. You are right as it's only the last couple of days I've felt more tired than normal and I have belly ache so maybe an infection is inside rather than visable.

Thank you for your reply.

I am yet to return to work as I'm bruised still plus I work with little children it's a hands on running around job but I really wish I was back I'm not one to be sat resting. It's driving me insane but I'm glad I'm not as feeling like this.

Glad to here your well too

Thank you

Julie

Aaah. My job requires me to sit on my bum for 8 hours so a bit different from yours ;) also there is no point going back until you are ready otherwise you can do more damage and it's worse in the long run.

Could be that you have a UTI- they thought I had one and put me on a course of antibiotics. I had pain on urination (still have a little bit but not as much) and back ache - I wasn't sure whether it was normal after surgery but got checked out just in case. Apparently it's common after our type of surgery what with the catheter they put in.

Anyway, best to get a professional opinion, I hope your appointment goes well. :)

I had my op in early Jan and I felt exactly the same! I also work with children, and I went to work after 1.5 weeks and ended up going home after an hour because I couldn't handle it. I started to feel a bit better about 3 weeks later, went back to work last week and I was mostly fine, still tired but normal level tired for someone chasing around 4 and 5 year olds!

I also have the smelly belly button, it's pretty gross, it actually was like this for a few days just after surgery then got better but in the last couple of days has come back, but because my actual incision in my belly button doesn't look infected I think it's ok.

I'm feeling significantly better now, just still with pain from where I guess they lasered, but just be patient and I'm sure you'll feel better:)

Thank you. I suppose I'm feeling under pressure as people think oh it's just a little cut on your belly button nothing major. Today and yesterday I have felt so tired but my doc said it's a good sign of healing as when you sleep is when you heal I don't know how much of that is true. Thank you for replying and making me feel not so guilty for still feeling this way luckily it is half term so I get another week to get sorted. Thank you

Yea my doctor kind of made out that it wasn't really that big an issue, I was just going in for some casual surgery so I expected to feel much better much sooner than I did. But I think everyone has a different experience and because I ended up with quite a lot of endometriosis burnt out I think it's been much slower.

I started feeling a bit like I was getting lazy and feeling guilty for wanting to lay around all day watching tv, but then I woke up one day and suddenly felt better so I'm sure you'll be back to normal soon :)
