Possibly endometriosis?

Hi all,

I recently had to have a scan of my ovaries due to having years of horrendous periods and other symptoms such as constant cramps, terrible mood swings, bleeding constantly, constant tiredness etc. The Dr. explained I have cysts on my ovaries and because of my symptoms I could potentially have endometriosis but I will need to have more tests to confirm.

But that was all he said, I haven't heard anything back since (this was about 6 weeks ago) and now having read about it I'm a bit worried, what other tests will I need and where do I go from here?

I'm 22 but have had these symptoms since I was about 13. Any advice please? xx

I had exactly the same thing as you and suffered along time. my advice to you would be to persist with your doctor and tell them you want this dealt with and its effecting your life in a huge way. that is what I did and I got through to see surgeon and he booked me in for a lap and was diagnosed with endometriosis.

It sounds like you need a procedure that I am currently recovering from...a diagnostic laproscopy. That is how endometriosis is confirmed, or rule out. Best of luck!

By the way, once you get your diagnostic laparoscopy, your doctor can drain your ovarian cysts, as well as remove any visible endometrial lesions he can. That will provide a lot of relief for you. I just had mine done yesterday. You go home just a few hours after the procedure & recovery is quite fast. I am 35yr old & have had endometriosis since I was 13. I had to have this diagnostic laparoscopy because my insurance wanted it done before I get my full hysterectomy, which I am getting in 2 months. I refuse to do shots such as Lupron & others like it. I could tell a difference in my pain level as soon as the day after my laparoscopy. The cysts on my ovaries caused me SO much pain & discomfort from my stomach down to my thighs & also my back was excruciating. I know it isn't a permanent fix but it is definitely some relief that is like heaven to me! I'm assuming you have a gynecologist? Tell him/her that you would like a diagnostic laparoscopy & ask if he/she can drain your cysts & remove any visible endometriosis. Besides that I do know that birth control pills do offer relief as well, although it doesn't always last long. I was recently diagnosed with Adenomyosis too. Endometriosis & Adenomyosis go hand in hand & many times women end up with both. I just happened to be diagnosed with cancer, Endometriosis & Adenomyosis all in a matter of 2 weeks. Misery! I feel so terrible for anyone suffering Endometriosis & Adenomyosis, even ovarian cysts! I was given pictures of my insides after my procedure. My cysts where so ugly! I have pictures of him draining them as well. Please don't let this hi because it just becomes worse. I have spent the last 10+ years on pain medications & missing out on so much of my life. I finally had to get serious with my doctors because they where refusing to do a hysterectomy on me because of my age & I might want more children one day. I have my kids & they are grown& I do not want any more, so it was frustrating. My gynecologist did an exam/ct scan & laparoscopy & said you need a hysterectomy immediately! They had first tried the Lupron injections on me, which I refused because that is one NASTY drug with such horrible side effects & I have been suffering long enough, I wasn't about to go through any more just for the sake of "it MIGHT help but the side effects are not fun at all" I absolutely LOVE my doctors. I suggest finding the right one for you, one that truly understands & is sympathetic to what you are going through. It really does make a world of difference. You are definitely way too young for a hysterectomy so I highly recommend a laparoscopy with drainage of ovarian cysts as well as removal of all visible endometrial lesions. I also recommend, if you aren't already, taking a contraceptive. I felt relief within a couple weeks & it felt so good, but then 3 months later it stopped working so well for me. I still take them though to control periods & minimize bleeding & cramping. They still do give me some relief. You need to make sure that you advocate for yourself, tell them what you want, what is going on & make sure they help you, after all you hired them & they work for you. If you don't feel like you are getting what you should or what you need, find a new doctor! Good luck girl!

thank you so much for all your advice. I just can't bare the pain anymore and I'm still young and would love to have children. I will definitely follow up on the laparoscopy and see if that helps thank you once again xx
