Overwhelmed

Hi, I am new to the site and have been looking for information on the web- but it's all very overwhelming. I had a salpingectomy 8 weeks ago and my left fallopian tube removed due to a hydrosalphinx ( it being swollen and filled with toxic fluid) at the same time I was diagnosed with endometriosis.

I have been under a fertility consultant for about a year, and honestly I have had awful symptoms for many years leading up to this point. It seems like many of us do.

Since the op ( which was performed by lap) I have had three lots of anti biotics for infections and have experienced horrible pain near my tummy button on the right side. It took seven weeks to get some answers but I know now that this is a hematoma, following the surgery. I think i was a little unlucky.

Has anyone had any similar experiences? And how long did it take for the hematoma to heal?

We would like to try again for a baby but I need to be physically fit first! It's also difficult to be in a position where I can't do anything about the endo pain as we would like to try to conceive.

I just wondered if anyone has had any similar experiences.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Yes the infections were all related to the op- all under control now. The endo is apparently in a place where they can't remove it, due to the risk to other organs etc.

The hematoma is so painful- doc compared it to the same pain as an appendicitis- in fact in the run up to diagnosis was admitted into the surgical ward to rule that out!

It's all such a journey isn't it- been a long time to get to the point- and still feel like there is time to come.

Will look at your page re endo- as it's not really something that I understand yet.

You will often find that general gynaes will say things like "we can't remove it due to the risk to other organs." What this means is "we do not have the skills to treat you". What they don't tell you is that an endo specialist could probably treat you because for some reason they are unaware of this. The list of specialists is here bsge.org.uk/ec-BSGE-accredi...

The time it will take for the haematoma to resolve depends on the size of it. My husband had one about the size of an egg which took a few months to disappear. Sorry to hear you are in so much pain with it.

I too developed an infection following my op. at first they thought it was a haematoma but it turned out to be a multi drug resistant bacterial infection. it was picked up after having two different types of antibiotics. they finally took a sample of what was inside and sent it off for testing. I ended up on ciprofloxacin and that seemed to do the trick.
