The day is quite long. So do take a book or magazine with. You will get to the reception to notify that you are there. Fill in some forms. Then you wait to see your surgeon. After that you wait to see your anesthesiologist. Then after you will be prepared for surgery and then wait until you have to go in. The anesthesia work really quickly and before you know it you are awake and recovering. It is a long day, so just try and be patient and keep yourself occupied. In between seeing the surgeon, the anesthesiologist and nurse, you have to wait a bit. All the best with your procedure! x

Good luck tomorrow! You'll be absolutely fine. It is a long day- but once you're given the anaesthetic it will be over and done with literally! Before you know it. Before I fell asleep I slurred "feels like I've had 10 glasses of rosè" haha! Let me know how you go on. Always worth taking a magazine or a book-or copy some films to your phone (if you have that type of phone) the anesthesiologist will have a chat with you pre-surgery just to explain what's what as will your surgeon.

All the best.

Keep us updated

Hi hun,

Good luck tomorrow! Hope all goes well. It will probably go a bit like this-get to the hospital, check in at reception, you'll get called through by a nurse who will show you to a cubicle & ask you to change into one of those very "stylish" (not) gowns & some surgical knickers (horrible things that look like fishnet boxers) (take a dressing gown & some slippers to put on when you've changed, & a book/magazine to read).

Then you'll be shown into a waiting area. A nurse will call you through, ask a bunch of questions, ask you to provide a wee sample, take your blood pressure, give you an I.d band, & measure you for some surgical stockings (lol they had to find me some kid-sized ones cuz I'm really small)

Then you'll go back to the waiting area. You'll get called through to have a brief chat with the surgeon who will explain the procedure ect & ask if you have any questions, then you'll go back to the waiting area. Get called through AGAIN to have a chat with the anaesthetists, sign a load more forms (I had to be called through to see a few other people because I've got alot of other medical problems) then you'll usually walk down to the surgical prep room.

In the prep room you'll lie on a bed (they'll put any belongings you have in a green plastic bag such as your dressing gown ect) the anaesthetists will chat to you as they get you ready to be put under (usually they are lovely & try to reassure you by asking you about yourself ect) whilst they tak your blood pressure again, hook you up to various monitors & put a cannula in. Then theyll start putting things such as muscle relaxants, painkillers & antisickness into your cannula, before they give you the anaesthetic & you'll go to sleep.

You'll come round in recovery (everything will be a bit hazy & you'll probably feel pretty cold- but they usually have something called "hot air blankets" to warm you up (a bit like an electric blanket) you'll have an oxygen mask on & be hooked up to a drip. You will probably keep falling asleep. A nurse will keep coming to check your heart rate, blood pressure & wounds. When you're ready they will take you back to the ward. You'll still be pretty sleepy so you'll probably doze off for a bit. Then a nurse will bring you a cup of tea & something to eat when you are ready, & ask if you need more painkillers.

After an hour or so, one of the surgical team will come round & explain the results of the lap. If they are happy that you are ready to go home soon after (you need to do a wee & be able to walk a few steps) the nurse will phone the person who will look after you & take you home & tell them you are ready to go, the nurse will bring the discharge form & a letter to give to your gp (explaining what you have had done & the results) they might give you a small bottle of oramorph to take over the next couple of days for the pain, & you'll be able to go home, providing they dont need to keep you in.

Like I said, good luck hun, hope you get some answers xx
