Zoladex and livial ....???

Hi ... I'm just posting to see if anyone out there is on zoladex and livial combination and if they are suffering with the same side affects as me?

I'd been suffering pain on my left hand side for about 18 months which was getting progressively worse and worse, along with heavy periods, large clots and all the normal symptoms ... so I finally went to the docs. The pains feel like someone is taking hold of my insides (where my ovary would be) and twisting it round and round. Initially they tried a mirena coil which I had to have removed the following day as I was in agony! I then had an ultrasound which showed no irregularities. The consultant at the hospital then had me monitoring my pains, mood swings etc to see if they could pinpoint anything and it was obvious it was all tied in to my monthly cycle. The next step was a laproscopy to see if they could find any signs of endometriosis. Apparently there were only a few tiny spots there. So to rule out anything to do with my bowels I have been put on zoladex and livial to see if this alleviates the pain. If so the next stage is a hysterectomy.

Since starting the meds (I'm on injection number 4) I feel like I'm losing the plot! I'm tense and feel like I have nervous energy all the time, I can't stop crying, my mood swings are incredible. My bones hurt, the hot flushes and weight gain are horrendous and I'm knackered! BUT on the plus side I haven't had to take any painkillers as the pain has pretty much gone and my periods speed instantly.

Is it just the combination of the two, and if so is it worth me stopping the livial? I saw my gp last week who doesn't want to change anything until I see the consultant again but I feel like I'm going mad. She did suggest I tried black cohosh alongside the hrt but when I asked in the shop they said they wouldn't recommend it. I've still got another 2 months before I'm back at the hospital and don't know what to do..... had anyone got any ideas, please?

Hi lindle ... I'm 44. I had something similar about 18 years ago with the same pains on the left hand side. They tried then to find out what was causing it and after several scans and a laproscopy, which all turned up blank my gp at the time advised that I should have a baby and that would resolve things! I kind of just got used to living with it back then and eventually the pain seemed to go away. Which is why it took me a while to go to the docs this time. I don't remember the pain being as bad last time though.

I kind of wonder though if the side effects are better than the pain I was living with and being doped up on cocodamol for 3 out of 4 weeks each month. My partner is brilliant and I don't know how he puts up with me as sometimes I'm like a screaming banshee ... everyone just keeps saying they want the smiley, happy me back but I think I'm buried quite deep at the Moment. Any advice you can give me would be a great help.

I had zoledex with no hrt for 6 months which was a nightmare - ok to begin but progressively worse after the 2nd month, if you do have endo ensure you see a endo specialist and not general gyno - as they can do excision which I had with my husterectomy (mine is complex) but I would try this first xx

Hi I had zoladex on its own for 3 months to calm everything down prior to my hysterectomy. After the 2nd injection I too had the symptoms you describe including a terrible memory which wasnt great as I was starting a new job! The worst pain was in my joints it was horrific so I am in great admiration atvhow you are coping. Im pleased to say that despite it being early days into my recovery from surgery all those ugly zoladex symptoms have gone and I feel like a new woman. Hope you feel better very soon

Hi all ... Thanks for the feedback. I've been to see my gp today and they have suggested calling the hospital to see about coming off the zoladex! With another 2 months to go they suggested workng oit the pros and cons of staying on the drugs or nothing ... will see what the hospital suggests! X
