Pain management after laparoscopy

I got my endometriosis diagnosed at the age of 20 and now I'm 21. I got my laparoscopy done last year in April. I have two questions in concern as I'm about to get married in a year.

Firstly, is it important for the cyst to come back after laparoscopy? And if it is then on average, when does it come back?

Secondly, does the pain of sex go away after the surgery or I will have to bear it forever? I have read about this pain on internet.

  • Ive had2 lapos and endo removed both times... Sex still hurts me and i feel it always will. I also suffer from adenmyosis so this can be another factor towards my pain. Im unsure aboyt the cysts and if they should return... Arent they meant to not come back?

  • Did you try or did your doctor recommend any medicine to manage the pain of sex?

  • My doc said.. try diff positions and see if that helps and keep it slow. Not what i call helpful advice!

  • Hi - there is no way of predicting how endometriosis might affect two different people as it will depend on the extent, stage, where is it and how thoroughly it is treated. It is nearly a year since your op so things should have settled down by now. Keep a diary of your symptoms in relation to your menstrual cycle and if things don't settle down soon I suggest you see you GP and ask for a referral to a specialist as you have probably been dealt with by a general gynaecologist who might not have removed it all. Have a look at my post on how to get to see a specialist. Unfortunately endometriosis is a chronic immune system condition so it can recur even after surgery so what is important is to have thorough surgery by an experienced surgeon.

  • Thank you so much for your concern, I will surely keep a record however, do you think removal of one ovary might be the cure of this disease?

  • I am afraid there is no cure only management. Removal of one ovary would make no difference as the other would still produce the oestrogen that drives endometriosis. Please have a look at my post on endo and its symptoms. Click on my user name x
