I feel like less of a woman.

Hello there.

I'm Sophie and I'm 18 years old, I joined this site to see how other people were coping with the condition. I have now had endometriosis for about a year and a half, the only treatment I have received so far is the hormonal pill. However, i just wanted to know I'm not alone. I have very painful sex which has caused me not to be able to have it with my long term partner for almost a year now. I have also lost my sex drive, and some of you may find this a bit funny but sometimes i feel like i literally have a smooth area, no vagina, nothing. Luckily my partner is understanding, but I cant help feeling like less of a woman as I'm not able to please him. People my age should be still having fun right? Does any one else feel this way? Is there any advice anyone could give me?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Sophie. You're not alone. Im 23 and am exactly the same. I still find it hard to deal with and think people I see day to day do not understand. The only treatment that works for me is norethisterone but I have horrible come downs. I struggle with sex too and have no sex drive which I hate because it puts pressure on my relationship even though my other half is supportive. Hope you can get some answers you need and I will help if I can xxx

Hi there im twenty and painful intercourse is my only symptom I had my Endo removed a month and a half ago, and I feel like the pain is still there but less intense, but still waiting to heal yet upto three months. I'm having a mirena coil fitted at the end of the month, this is supposed to really help some women , though not all , so perhaps this would be a different route for you? Having endo removed by excision is probably the best treatment also , so perhaps if you haven't had this allready you could discuss with your gyne x Goodluck x

Thank you for the replies. Its nice to know I'm not alone. I have to book ab appointment with my gp to then be referred for the surgery next, they wouldn't do it the first time because of my young age.Only thing that puts me down is the time you have to wait, waiting's the worst part.

Keep asking for surgery. I am also 18 and I have had 4 laparoscopys in the past year and a half and they still haven't got to the bottom off it. Keep going and don't give up x

How did you get treatment that soon? That's amazing!!

I'm 20 and have been fighting this thing (and health professionals) for 4 years. Still, they will not give me a laparoscopy. They gave you 4? How did you get them to agree to that?!!

Did you actually have a laparoscopy? This is the only way to diagnose endo for 100 percent x

Oh yes, I should have mentioned its not 100% certain as I haven't had that done yet. But i've been prodded and poked for over a year, treated for all sorts and this is their conclusion apparently.

Yes the waiting is horrible I waited nearly three years before I got a lap, but it is the on,y way to diagnose endo, they will send you for all scans and things but don't let them fob you off with things such as IBS , if you do have endo it won't go away on its own, and gps often misunderstand it , so you need to push to be reffered to a gyne , even if you don't have endo they may find other things x hopefully you will get a result soon x

I'm going to book an appointment tomorrow to get a referral for one. I'm going to demand one. Sick of waiting just because of my age. Thank you for you help. 😊

Your definitely not alone i was diagnosed at 18 after years of misdiagnosis, im 22 now but still feel like its a condition not a lot of people know about and that makes me feel sometimes like to the outside world endo doesn't exist i dont want sympathy just people to see how hard it is what we go through , i hate being young and having a low sex drive because of endo even though i have an understanding partner i feel like im letting him down sometimes so relate to everything you've said! Im on microgynon and that is the only pill that helps im on 3 packs at a time but as soon as the 3rd pack is coming to an end i get all the symptoms back, its some relief but still no cure all the best

I know exactly how you are feeling :( I am 17 and have suffered bad periods since I was 12, get chronic pelvic pain most days and find it unbearable having sex due to the pain. My boyfriend (of 3 years) is really supportive but I feel like he feels unwanted a lot of the time as I find it so difficult to be intimate with him. I am on the waiting list for my first lap, which I am pretty nervous about but I am just hoping that I will finally have an answer because this is affecting me daily now and I just cant cope with it anymore.. I hope your gp and the hospital department listen to you better than they did with me, just remember its your body and you know it best!! xxx
