What to choose

Hi all, I had an apointment with my gyne this week and he has giving me two choices regarding the endo, firstly he can do the op at my local hospital and just laser the endo in my uterus or I can go to either Poole or Southamptom and have the endo on my rectum removed with a " corrective team" on standby incase they damage my rectum or bowel.

I don't really know what to do, I want it gone buy do I take the risk? If things go wrong then I could end up with a colostomy bag. I have two young children at home and a teenager who I want to be able to run around with and have fun.

I just don't know what to do for the best, what would you ladies do if in my situation?

All advice gratefully recieved.

Thanks in advance.

Lou xx

This is a very personal thing and the decision is down to you at the end of the day!

I can tell you that living with a colostomy is not as bad as many people think, in this day and age there are tons of ways hiding the bag, special sprays to disguise any unpleasant smells and equipment to help diguise it during swimming or sport!

Also you need to think how severe the symptoms and problems are reguarding your bowels. Does it dramatically effect your quality of life? Do you think if the endo on your uterus was gone would be enough to improve your quality of life?

Personally, I would just have the uterus endo removed, then re-evaluate how your symptoms are to see if you can live with the rectal endo. However, you know your own body and problems so you can already have some kind of insight to how your life would be in both scenarios!

I would talk to your doctor again and ask for common the risks are for ending up with a colostomy, or you could ask to talk to the doctor who would carry out the surgery.

I hope you make the right decision by you and that no matter what happens your pain will be a lot better!

Thankyou for your thoughts, I've had endo on my rectum since 2010 at which point my gyne (I've moved county since then) said that the cons outweighed the pros but my new gyne is more open with options.

Hey hun ive had surgery 4 times and every time I've had it removed from bowel and rectum as its too like regrowing there. It's totally up to you, as its a choice that you have to live with. Every time I've had surgery since my first lap they've never known what they would find but they always say it's a risk. I hope you the best of luck xx

It doesn't sound scary at all. if I had children I wouldn't want anymore surgery xx

It just changes priorities but if I can reduce the pain at all then surely that's good for all of us. I also suffer with fibromyalgia so pain is a daily occurrence through that on top of the endo. Xx

Hi, have you tried the gnrh analoques injections? I have I had zoladex for 9 months and the endo dries up and dies off, this is usually given to patients before operations. Mine was so successful I don't need surgery?

Just wondered if you had discussed this with your gyne as another option

Thanks Hannah

Hi, I am having my first lap in 2 weeks and I am having endo removed from my bowel. The gynae advice me about the risks but said that risk of a colostomy bag is low, 1-5 % depending on the studies. Also in most cases they are reversible. Obviously risks still exist but maybe you can ask him to give you more information about them so you can make an informed decision. I decided to go for it, in my case a lot of my pain is back pain and I believe it is releted to the endo in the bowel. Also I am ttc and removing all endo seemed as the best option for me. Best of luck whatever you decide x
