I'm about to have my 4th injection and have started feeling really low and depressed. Has anyone experienced this with the injections. I really don't feel myself mentally and it is scaring me. Any help or advice please

Please see your GP as soon s you can. Yes it is a side effect of the drug but you need to be assessed by your GP, who will either recommend your stop the decapeptyl (which would be my advice too), of if he/she wants to put you on anti-depressants to help you cope bit better in the weeks ahead, or whether you carry on as you are but be monitored closely.

Personally speaking (I was on zoladex) the drug absolutely messed up my head, not just depression, but dreadful anger and moods and short temper, loss of short term memory (which I still have 3 years after stopping) for that reason alone, as soon as it starts messing with your brain then I would advise you stop the drug now, and don't have the next dose and allow your body to begin to re-boot production of hormones hopefully alleviating all the side effects within a few months after stopping. It is not an instant return to normal, it takes quite some time for each of the hormones which hve been shut down to get back under production and build up enough stock in your body for normal body functions to return. So the sooner you get going on the recovery the better for the rest of your body. The endo of course will reactivate too, but the drug is not going to kill it, it isonly prescribed with the thought that it may improve your quality of life while on it, and if the side effects become too much of problem then taking the drug is no longer worth doing.

It will be your decision which course of action you want to take, but please do see your GP. Depression is a very serious condition and will only get worse if you stay on the Decpeptyl, so it really is important to speak to your GP as soon as you can. Very best of luck and hope you can get back to the real you asap.

Hi. I was exactly the same as you. I couldn't find happiness in anything or anyone, not even my child which is something I still feel guilt over. I refused the injections and told them to try something else. The pain was better than the way they made me feel and behave. My consultant was fantastic. He told me they make suggestions but it's my body and therefore my choice.

I hope you get it sorted soon. I am back to normal now in terms of mood etc but also pain. However I prefer that to the way the injection made me feel. Good luck x

Thank you ladies. I thought it must be the injections cos I have never felt like this before. I feel totally numb to happiness for no reason. It's a bit disappointing cos the injections have worked so well for me up until this week. Did either of you try taking hrt tablets? The doctor gave me some to take if I couldn't cope with the side effects. Don't no wether to try taking them first. I am due the next injection on Tuesday. I don't want the pains to come back as I was off work for 6 months before I started the injections.

Just an update. I discussed my depressed state of mind with the nurse and she started me on livial hrt tablets. After a week the depression lifted thankfully and my mind feels like my own again
