Anyone got advice for effective pain relief I'm currently on co-codamol, ibuprofen and tramadol. But suffering to many side effects with the tramadol and trying to avoid taking it, not very successful as so much pain can't stand up straight.

Have you tried naproxen ?

I also find heat patches, hot water bottles and a tens machine really helpful.

Best wishes,

Barbara

GP quite adamant ibuprofen would be enough but I'll try again. Heat patches have been really good but to expensive for when I'm on the move.

I have just tried naproxen after years of trying lots of other pain relief. Oh wow - can't believe how good it is! Went from being curled up in bed unable to move from pain to cutting the hedge in about 3 hours. It also seemed to stem some of the heavy flow and somehow I had more energy (that may have been psychosomatic!). Wish I'd have found it sooner.

Hi George,

You could be describing me here! My doctor has put me on 100mg Tramadol three times a day but I think my body's becoming immune. I'm also on mefenamic acid to help periods but since I've been on Prostap injections I haven't had one. Doesn't mean I don't have the pain tho. Try returning to your GP and having a chat about pain relief, might be able to help.

Take Cate, Eve

My only fear of going back to the GP is that he will send me to hospital and right now I can't think of anything worse. I have spent more time in that place this year than I have in my entire life.

Hi, I was diagnosed with endo in 2012 and since then I have been in terrible pain. I have deep infiltrating endo everywhere.I've just had my 2nd lap and currently recovering. My best pain regime is tramadol every 6 hours with paracetamol to bridge the gap and naproxen anti inflamatory. This helps with underlying pain but for the really sharp throbbing pains I also use a maternity tens machine. I was very sceptical about using the tens but the pain relief is amazing for me so its worth a try. You can hire them for couple of weeks so you can test them out before you buy. Best one i found was Elle tens maturnity machine. Not sure how long you been taking tramadol but you do get used to it after a while so the side effects are less severe. However I have also had codeine sulphate which is less potent than tramadol but a step up from cocodamols. Good luck. I hope this was helpfull :0)

You could try changing your diet. It worked for me. Really hard work though.

Try a different anti-inflammatory. Ibuprofen never worked for me. See if he will offer you prescription diclofenac. I'm not sure how useful it is for me to list a load of other drugs - everyone is different of course. However, of the various drugs I have tried and am currently on for severe pain, I have had by far fewer side effects with Oxynorm or Oxycodone (same drug - different release time) than others. I have to take other drugs as well - though I wouldn't recomend this as an action plan if you can get away with not doing so! A few years back when I was taking DHC Continus with diclofenac, the DHC did make me feel sick and tired initially but it wore off after a couple of weeks. Nefopam also caused sleepiness. Also. don't underestimate paracetamol used in conjunction with other drugs (obviously check the others have no paracetamol in them ). There is an agent in paracetamol that enhances the 'performance' of some other painkillers.
