How long does it take between having the diagnostic laparoscopy and TPPE surgery?

Hello,

Finally been booked in for the diagnostic laparoscopy 15/08/2014, before having TPPE surgery, just wondering if anyone on here knew roughly how long it will be from having the diagnostic lap, to having the TPPE surgery?

Thanks

Hard to say. You will need to meet with your consultant afterwards to discuss the findings and decide whether it is worth going ahead. TPPE is a major undertaking so you might want time to consider your options. Other factors including how busy your surgeon is, whether your surgeon had booked a summer holiday could all influence the time. My surgeon Mr Trehan was in Brazil for a while which delayed things. As I said...hard to predict. Your consultant is the best to contact about this.

Hope it all goes well for you :)

Thank you for your response,

Will be going ahead with the TPPE surgery regardless of findings as I've had severe endometriosis for 15 years (took doctors 11 years to diagnose me), and only options I've been given are GnRh analogues or a hysterectomy.

From the sounds of it, we have the same surgeon! Hoping he hasn't booked a holiday anytime soon!

Hi - I had my diagnostic on 11th December 2010 and underwent TPPE on 8th January 2010 so that was 4 weeks apart. Same surgeon as mentioned above. He did carry out other work in addition to TPPE at that time as I had extensive deep endo with obliteration of the Pouch of Douglas, shaved endo off the bowel, bladder and diaphragm etc. I think the op was just under 8 hours, all keyhole. I have not had any signs of endo or discomfort since which has been fantastic but, obviously there can be no guarantees with any surgery and all cases are individual.

I agree with the above comments that the surgeon will want to disccuss his findings and recommendations/options with you and it will depend upon the outcome of that and of his diary as to how quick any subsequent surgery would be carried out. I don't think I would have wanted to have undergone it any quicker as you do need to give yourself a chance to recover.

I do wish you well for your forthcoming investigation and if I can be of any help or support, please feel free to PM.

All best wishes

I had a diagnostic lap at start of April 2014, and still not received a date for excision surgery - although have been told it will be mid August. That's at least 4.5 months in my case, and I have had to battle to get on the waiting list. I should find out next week when the surgery date is.

Hi

I am seeing the same surgeon as you. I had my diagnostic laparoscopy in May after seeing him for a consultation the week after I am having TPPE mid August.

Good luck
