I am having my operation in july to have my endometriosis cut away. I have been trying for a family for 4 years this september and no i am starting to worry about the pain and falling pregnant after. Has anyone had this operation that could give a bit of advise?

Hi Lisa. I've had 2 laparoscopies in 3 months, first one to remove cysts and then they found severe endometriosis, therefore I was referred to another specialist for another op. We've also been trying for a few yrs before I knew I had endo. I am 33yrs old and had stage 4 endometriosis and they said it would be unlikely to get pregnant naturally. We had to try for 3 months after the surgery and if no luck to be referred for fertility treatment. I'm pleased to say that I got pregnant naturally and I'm now 11weeks :). It's the best time to conceive after the surgery. It's not too painful, first 3 days or so you'll have pain, but it's more uncomfortable. They give painkillers Tramadol that really helps. The bloating and shoulder pain tends to be the most uncomfortable. You may bleed after the surgery so buy some sanitary pads and also comfy pyjamas and other clothes such as yoga pants while you recover. I had 2 weeks off work both times, however you will start to feel much better after 7days. Hope this helps and good luck x

Hi Lisa, I'm currently 3wks post lap operation. Where they did some work but I've got see an endo specialist on Wed (fast tracked which concerns me as I need more removing). I agree with Lotjie about bloating and pain, peppermint tea helps loads with that. I must admit I am still very uncomfortable and was hoping to be a lot better than I am. But everyone recovers better.

However I also know several people who have got pregnant after the op, I was one of them and she's now 7. (congratulations Lisa btw). So good luck xx

I have and many other ops and treatment and was told I still would not be able to fall pregnant again. Needless to say with 18 years gap between my two girls, I happily fell pregnant and my consultant nearly fell of his chair lol. It made a few probs with the birth, but anything is possible and it will lower the pain too xx

Hi samk1, did you have any tubal blockages or why did the Drs say you could not fall pregnant again? I have partly blocked tubes and they couldn't fix it during the operation. We are waiting for IVF now. Thats amazing that you fell pregnant :-) what did you do to help? All the best xx

I had radical excision 18mths ago and my life has turned around. Ok so I haven't fallen pregnant yet, but then we haven't been trying. I've just been enjoying being a human being again!! I plan to try IVF again by the end of the summer so we'll see but I felt that health came before a life as I would be no good to a baby if I was forever crippled over in pain!

I now live pain free, have periods that I don't dread now, and have energy!!!

My operation was long - 9.5hours but was definitely worth it and the recovery was no worse than the recovery from a laporoscopy!

I wish you well and if you want to ask me any questions then please feel free!
