I need some advise for Endometriosis.

I'm 16 and I got diagnosed with endometriosis February last year. My doctor used Zoladex on me last year which helped a lot, it stop my periods and the pain. But of course the pain came back. So I'm currently on the pill. I don't get periods anymore but I still get the severe pain. The doctors are thinking I should go back on Zoladex for 3 months. I don't want to because I hated the mood swings and hot flushes. Could someone please give me some advise on what's best.

Thanks!

You tried the depo provera? Worked a treat on me!! No periods or pain!! I was on it from 15-18 when I had a coil fitted. Also a coil works pretty well for a lot of people. But probably begs to wait until you leave school for that as if you haven't had kids then it can hurt for a little while after. X x

You're a little young to have zoladex, I was told to wait till I'm 18 as my system had matured enough, obviously a silly inexperienced gynae move. Don't use it again, it wouldn't be good for your future.

What I would suggest is try other contraceptives, I personally found nothing worked until I had the patches, the pill didn't work, nor the implant which id also very good. I still have periods whilst on them but the patches stop the pain and make my periods so light that I'm only on for a day or two.

Don't go back on zoladex or prostap because the most common thing in people under 18 having the drug is ovulation stops as your body hadn't matured enough to reset it after you e stopped taking it. If you're not having periods then either the pill is doing its job or you've already stopped ovulating. This can be resolved with ovulation stimulating drugs but it isn't advised so young.

I wish you the best of luck in whatever choice you make. It has to be solely your decision. Keep us updated, take care.

Well said by Leya. In my view you would be too young for Zoladex and I also think the manufacturers warn against prescribing for adolescents. They also say it should not be taken for more than 6 months in a lifetime so I really dispute your doctor's advise. This is a powerful drug that can potentially leave you with longterm side effects. My view is that this type of drug should be taken off the market. It's a very lazy choice by an inexperienced, misguided doctor.

Zoladex will not cure endo. After you stop taking it the endo will return and you can't take it for the rest of your life.

I suggest you don't take it and you find another doctor. As Leya says, trying other contraceptives would be a better course of action first until you find a good endo specialist to remove the endo. Good luck with whatever you decide. x

I completely agree with you Brownlow..... The GNRH drugs are dreadful... I'm still suffering the side effects of my one and only decapeptyl injection!

Never again !
