Hello ladies,

It's me yet again! So I had the above done on the 14th of April. My gp told me to come and see him if pain persists after 5 weeks. Hence, I rang yesterday for an appointment. He couldn't see me so he booked me in for this afternoon with his colleague instead. Now excuse my language as I am extremely annoyed. She was the most idiotic gp I have ever met. She didn't even have a flipping clue about my health situation. I had to tell her where the endo was found. I was so peed off I even had to say to her"do your research before you see a patient in future I have better things to do with my time". I went on to explain how the endo pain was affecting my life in every way possible. I told her all about my burning pain around my stomach area, pain in my legs and thighs, pain when going toilet, vaginal pains the list went on. She asked for a urine sample and she goes there is blood in my urine and now I should see a urology!!! She told me this bull before around December but when I wet for my first appointment with my consultant I told her about the blood in my urine and she didn't find anything. I kept on sticking to my endo pain but the dumb gp ignored me blatantly and didn't even give me any painkillers to help me. I am going to ring my consultant tomorrow now she is meant to see me in July for a follow up but I will try to get it sorted sooner. Have any of you been through the same symptoms after first lap? Has it come back?

Sorry for such a long message but I would really appreciate some help and advice. I am feeling very emotional and upset. Thank you. X

Hi

I'm sorry you're upset and frustrated but, to put it bluntly and please don't take offence, I think you were possibly expecting a bit much from a GP, particularly if she's not your normal GP. She's not a gynae and has no specialist endo knowledge, it is very limited what she could do today and for all she knew you could have been going there for anything, and the information she will have in the discharge summary in your GP notes is not particularly detailed, it might not even say where endo was found (one of my discharge summaries just stated "lap diagnosed endometriosis"!). What was found and where it is etc is for your gynae to follow up with you. Although completely agree she should have tried more to sort you with painkillers. I would guess that if you had been able to see your normal GP the appointment would have gone better, just because he's more on top of your recent history, although there's not much he could do other than pain meds, so it's unfortunate you couldn't see him - could you try getting an appointment with him? he might also be able to help speed up a follow up with your gynae.

At 5 weeks post op it is your gynae that should be dealing with your care if you are struggling as still in post-op period, I would phone your gynaes secretary and chase them for help (repeatedly if necessary!), explaining that you are not getting very far with your GP etc. I was still in pain 10 weeks after my last lap (was major op for radical excision) and then it suddenly started to improve, so it doesn't necessarily mean it's come back, it could still be post op pain but only your gynae can advise on whether or not they removed all endo etc.

I hope you start to get some relief soon x

Thank you Hayls. I totally appreciate your reply and I am not taking offence to what you said. I have planned to ring the surgery again for my usual doctor. Your answer was very informative to me as I didn't know I am still under my gynae duty of care per se. I shall ring the hospital tomorrow itself first thing and try to get an appointment asap. I will have an update on here soon as I get somewhere with my situation. Thanks once again. X

I've had the same problem with 1 particular gp as well I went in explained all my endo symptoms (diagnosed last year not treated as it was in a delicate area uretha) ! I've been having horrendous pain with big time bowel problems and pain lymph nodes enlarged 1.2 cm in pelvic area was told by ultrasound lady (whom was lovely and understanding to go straight back to gp for further tests or at least get the date pulled forward...

The uneducated gp told me I shouldn't get this much pain from endo arghhh!!! And sent me off with antibiotics for what she assumed was a pelvic infection!

Once home after steam coming from my ears I emailed a complaint to

The said surgery asking them to reeducate the said doctor on endometriosis so she doesn't fail other patients so know how you feel. Good luck. Xx
