Has anybody been prescribed painkillers that actually work or at least take the edge off??

My doctor will only prescribe naproxine and it doesn't even touch the pain, no matter what else I take it with. Off back again tomorrow, so could do with some advice of what to demand next. Feel like I don't get anywhere without stamping my feet.

Tramadol or OxyContin, trouble with these is you might not be able to work on them depending on your job x

Sorry to hear that. It's bloody awful isn't it. Been 13yr since my original diagnosis. Was put on pill then mirena which worked, but now wanting a family and back to square one. They said I'd have at least 2month waiting list to see gyno. Just can't go through it all again so taken out a loan to go private. Hoping work will be more understanding this time round x

I have found tramadol is the only.thing that helps me although it makes me feel.a bit dizzy and nauseous. But when it gets so bad it's nice not to have pain.

Morphine and nefopam work for me. Well at least take the edge off x

How are you taking Naproxen? And how many Naproxen are you taking a day?

My GP told me to take Naproxen up to 1g (4 tablets) a day for a few days before the pain starts as Naproxen takes time to start working. After few days I have to reduce to 750mg (3 tablets) a day.

I take Lansoprazol (stomach protecting tablet) when I wake up and I take 2 tablets of Naproxen after the breakfast, 1 after lunch then 1 after evening meal wheather I get pain or not. I set my phone alarm and I take them. I take Buscopan in the between and co-codamol or solpadol. I use TENS machine at home. Heat pad is on my tummy and back 24/7. Some bad days I sometime change Naproxen to Declofenac.

I tried Tramadol with anti sickness tablets but I feel still sick and I am very drowsy and I don't think I can go to work so it is for weekend. Tramadol doesn't take all the pain away anyway for me.

Do you take Naproxen regularly or only when you get pain? If you know when you get pain, I recommend you take them regularly from for a couple of days beforehand to avoid pains. I hope you get less pain.

Take care

I'm taking 3 500mg a day currently...upped the dosage myself so good to know I'm not gonna overdose! Taking cocodamol as well regularly. Don't always know when the pain will start, but I have been keeping up to it. I'm still going to see my gp later as yet another sleepless night and I'm dead on my feet. TENS machine is a good idea, thanks for that. Xx

Targinact is the only thing that works for me, it's oxycodone and naloxone. Added to paracetamol and gabapentin. Phew! But the targ is magic and I don't feel ill or drowsy or anything.

I take tramacet when the pain is really bad, although it makes me dizzy and gives me weird dreams so I try to avoid taking it as much as possible, especially since for some reason the effects seem to last more than 12 hours for me, afterwards I get a migraine form hell. Now I take co-codamol, still makes me dizzy but not as much. I also trued buscopan and it takes the edge off on a medium pain day. At least so I can go to work and do my job. I spend the day at a desk so I am lucky as I can use hot pads and even a small hot water bottle. If your job involves sitting for long periods maybe you can try that? xoxo

I used to take Pethidine which was the only thing that even came close to touching the pain. And then the manufacturers made noises about withdrawing it so I was forced to look for something else and my gynae prescribed Tapendatol also known as Palexia. It's still an opioid so still heavy duty but I am very, very impressed with it. All of the pain killing qualities of Pethidine but without the fuzzy head.

It's a relatively new drug and I had to get my gynae to prescribe it because my GP just knew nothing about it.

Might be worth asking about though :)
