Hi everyone, just looking for peoples opinions

Finally I am getting somewhere, I went for a second opinion and they have diagnosed me with endo and put me under a specialist, they suggested the mirena coil. Just looking for people's opinions. Does it work or help with the pain?

For me it was an absolute miracle - a life transforming gadget.

It stopped my periods, period pains and PMT. Gave me back so much time free of all that nightmare each year - so i highly recommend giving it a go.

It does however take settling in time 4-6 months to get working and that settling in time can be filled with twinges and cramps and weird sensations while not nearly as bad as period or endo pains they can be a nuicanse to get through but it really is worth it when the gadget does stop your periods and you can get back to a normal-ish life.

I had been plagued with my periods since i was 13 and got the mirena installed at age 43. And it has been the most fantastic transformation to my quality of life.

I was recommended the merina loads of times and after putting off for ages because of the fear of having it put in I eventually took the plunge and had it done. Nothing prepares you for how painful it is when they insert it after that I thought I felt ok but walked out the room and fainted in the middle of the clinic waiting room. I persevered with it for around 18 months and eventually had it taken out before Xmas. It does work for the bleeding trust me!! But I decided in the end that no periods just was not worth all the other side effects that came with it. I had constant bloating, severely tender breasts, I was constantly taking pregnancy tests drs told me it can mimic a fantom pregnancy, massive weight gain no matter what I ate!, pain during intercourse and I was constantly going back to get threads checked but they insisted it was all normal even though my partner could feel them. I also suffered from pain very low down in my stomach/pelvis when I needed a wee and also felt as though I could feel it when passing bowel movements. Drs told me this was nothing connected to merina however funny how it all went away when I had it removed!!

It's down to you what you do at the end of the day but I just know I wish I had taken more notice of all the really bad reviews online before I decided to have it done.

Thankyou, my mum had Endo and had a hysterectomy. She had the mirena coil and it didn't work for her. I have read all the reviews online and I'm thinking of going down another route.

I am just wondering how they have diagnosed you, as I was also told you could only get diagnosed by having a laparoscopy (cannot spell!).

Hi Ren95,

The mirena coil was recommended to me after removal of endo about 6 years' ago. My surgeon said he could put it in at the end of the operation. This would avoid any pain associated with the normal inserting process.

Even so, I declined the recommendation without being aware of any negative press about the mirena. My endo has returned but I feel I made the right decision for me. Something about throwing hormones at a problem that is itself probably caused by hormonal imbalance seemed not to fit with my way of thinking. I am aware that the mirena has worked wonders for many women and allowed them to get on with their lives. I'm delighted for them and admire their bravery for taking the plunge given many negative stories but it's just not for me.

The mirena has been suggested to me again but after much thought...no thanks! Perhaps I'll change my mind if my condition gets really bad! A hysterectomy has been mooted but I'm still processing what to do next and experimenting with changes to my diet and life. In the end, as I'm sure you are aware, it comes down to that oft repeated line...only you know what's best for yourself.

Remember that you can always have the mirena removed if it's not working for you. Good luck with whatever route you take.

I have had a laparoscopy and that's how they found it. Also found my bowel is stuck to my stomach wall.
