Hospital trip aftermath and being blunt with the doctor.

So, on Wednesday, my gp sent me to the hospital as I was in so much pain and on my 3rd week of bleeding. I got there, blood tests and the like were done, then when I finally saw the DR there I was sent on my way with painkillers and told that my GP should reffer me to a gyne, that they weren't going to do that, and that it would be faster if my GP did it (!).

They did however mention the possibly of endo. It feels so good to hear someone finally qualify that as a potential problem.

So the hospital told me to go back to my GP and get them to refer me to gyne and for another US. My question is, if I just go into the GP and say, "I am concerned that I might have Endometriosis" are they going to just laugh at me? What will they do when/if I just come out and say this, I'm begining to get the impression that they need that kickstart to start even considering it as an option.

Is it a valid/good Idea to just go in there and say that? What should I do at my next appointment otherwise?

Hi, and sorry you've been going through it.

If I were you I'd go to your GP and tell them exactly what they said at the hospital, that they suspect endo and that they have suggested that your GP refer you to a gynae for investigation.

I know it seems daft when you were already there but that's how the system works, I guess.

Good luck

Second this. Many of us only got a diagnosis after we raised endometriosis as a concern ourselves.

I brought the pain and symptom questionnaire and diary with me from EndoUK

endometriosis-uk.org/inform...

This may, perhaps, be helpful with your doctor/gynae...

I third everything everyone else has said :)

I printed out blank outlook diaries for the last two years and half highlighted the top half of every day I had been off ill due to pain, I also highlighted (in a different colour) the bottom half of the days I had been bleeding. That way a quick glance clearly shows how much you have been suffering.

As part of GP standard practice they are supposed to ask what the problem is and what you want them to do about it so I would recommend you think about hospitals and scans and treatments you are willing to try in the meantime (commonly the combined pill initially). Have a look at the main endo uk website for details of diagnosis and symptoms (sometimes you have things caused by endo that you don't realise are related to the endo). Also the royal college of Ob & Gyne has a endo diagnosis and treatment pathway that GPs and gynies are supposed to follow.

Good luck, hope you get some help x

I didn't have to go my gp to go hospital to get on the gynae ward. I was staying in as in so much pain had a scan done and found cysts and had a lap done.

Maybe due to different hospitals

I would tell your gp what the doctor at the hospital has said tho
