Last weekend I went out with the family and now Im suffering with really painful joints. My mum is thinking about taking me to the doctors although I think it may be a waste of time as they will just say its your CFS and to take ibroprfen. What medication do people take when they have bad joints because of their CFS?

fiirstly you should see your doctor in order to count out any other source of inflammation. secondly if you don't see your doctor how are they to know how your symptoms effect your life. and of course i have to ask if you are pacing yourself because if you carry on pushing through your symptoms they will get worse.also for any strong painkillers you would need a prescription. gabapentin seems to be popular with some patients for pain relief . hopefully some one who has experience of the gabapentin or its sister drug pregabelin will answer your question to .best wishes.

I try to pace myself as best as I can although it can be a struggle at times as I am constantly told to get out as I once suffered with depression. Thanks for the advice regarding seeing a doctor and types of medication I really appreciate it.

Best wishes also.

Hi there. Sorry to hear you are in such pain. If Ibuprofen isn't helping then I would say you do need to see your doctor. Painful joints and muscles can often be helped by heating or chilling the area. My daughter uses a heat pad but I find an ice pack works for me! Funny how different we can be. I find Ibuprofen upsets my stomach but I plaster Ibuleve gel on my shoulders, knees and elbows when they are sore. No good if all your joints are sore though. When you want to do something that's likely to cause a flare up try to have a very restful day or two beforehand and be prepared to completely rest for however long it takes afterwards. An ME life takes a lot of planning and gets very tedious but if you can be very disciplined you can make a recovery so it's worth it in the long run.

Good luck :-)
