Low calorie diet - egfr drop

Hello,

I'm during weight reduction, and my creatinine raised. Previously I had EGFR about 90, and now it is 59? Can low calorie diet affect in such a drop in egfr? I think that it can be due to muscle wasting (when body needs energy it looks for unused muscles and burn them, and it pumps creatinine to the blood), but all researches I checked, said that muscle loss decrease creatinine levels.

Do you have any experience with weight loss and creatinine levels?

Thank you for answers.

most likely due to loss of water and dehydration, on strict low carbohydrates diets, greater weight losses are due to the initial water ,that we naturally lose that have in our bodies and not muscle. Which can cause your Egfr to lower and creatinine levels to rise, add on moderate exercise and that can also lead to false readings. I would speak to your doctor and ask for a retest of blood work and see if changing your water /food intake makes a difference.

I don't think so. I drink about 3,5l water a day, my hematocrit is normal as always. I will increase calories for 1 week, and retest probably. Found that low calorie diet, and fat burning pump ketones to the blood, and this interfere with creatinine. We will see.

Moderate protein. I will retest it after 1 week after increasing calories. Found that: jamanetwork.com/journals/ja...
