Can Stage 3 CKD due to medication improve to stagev2 CKD w/ stopping med?

After annual tests w/ my GP 2 yrs ago, I was told I had stage 3 chronic kidney disease. My tests have continued to show I have stage 3 chronic kidney disease. I am now seeing a renal specialist who has determined damage is due to long term prescribed daily diuretics & to stop taking the prescribed diuretics & potassium supplements. I have never had problems w/ blood pressure, not diabetic, have autoimmune conditions (hypothyroidism, psoriasis & psoriatic arthritis, & diagnosed w/ B12 anemia in Aug 2017). I've never smoked, rarely drink alcohol, am overweight & not as active as was in past. I've gotten Remicade infusions since 2009 & monthly B12 shots . I regularly see drs (GP, rheumatologist, hematoligist, & now renal specialist). I am to have labs at renal specialis1 in 1 mo & then 6 mos. to see if kidney function improves w/ no longer taking diuretic & potassium. Has anyone had similar experience & had improved from stage 3 chronic kidney disease to stage 2 chronic kidney disease?

Most people can live a largely normal life with chronic kidney disease. It is important to take good care of yourself to help stop it getting worse and reduce your risk of other health problems such as cardiovascular disease.

Taking medication as prescribed, having a healthy diet, exercise regularly, stop smoking, limit alcohol consumption, receiving flu vaccination and regular reviews and monitoring will all help you.

I was diagnosed in 2006 and was put on prednisone, methotrexate and high doses of Advil. The result was of course, it crashed my kidney. It rebounded to GFR of 41 and remained there for a while. Then I started developing kidney stones, really BIG kidney stones. My uric acid was very high and that was what was causing the stones. High uric acid is due to the PsA. I also was never a diabetic, but I became one again from the drugs and PsA. I have switched up my diet and have brought the diabetes into a controlled state and I am slowly weaning off the drugs for that.

The truth is each person is different. PsA and P is a really nasty condition which does impact major organs. I am on Orencia infusions. I have exhausted 9 biologics in the last eight years. Because of the use of NSAIDS to help with the pain, which was prescribed but I have stopped and all the stones, (I was passing them like a goose) compounded with the diabetes, my GFR slipped and is now stage 4. But for a year now, I have maintained my levels and have improved many of my lab results with diet. Stay away from supplements, especially potassium. Watch your diet and see a renal dietician if you can. I know, believe me, how hard it is to lose weight, especially with Remicade, and how you lose the ability to move in comfort. Oh, do I know. But maybe switching your diet to include more veggies, less protein and watch your salt, you could maybe improve. Hi, I haven’t gone through this except my kidney function is up 19 points in 6 month. Really only thing different was changing cholesterol medicine. But I do know excessive potassium is hard on kidney

I agree. Potassium caused a major drop in my kidney function & once I stopped, my numbers went way up. Meds are hard on the kidneys. Period. Full stop.
