Yes stage 5. But I’ve been smelling ammonia for probably 15 years!

I guess that's part of the kidney disease. This disease is not easy to deal with. Praying and hoping for everyone challenged with CKD🙏

No it is not easy! So much to take in. Prayer sees me through 😀

I have also had a metallic taste in my mouth for years but this has got progressively worse, and now my sense of smell has gone (EGFR now 11). I mentioned this to the surgeon who assessed me for a transplant, and she said that this would return, post-transplant.

I have that taste and smell too. I told my previous nephrologist and now my new nephrologist and they don’t believe me. They both told me it’s too soon to have that. My GFR IS 17 and my Creatinine level is 3.0, I have Stage IV CKD, due to IGAN. They both brushed off, like it’s nothing to worry about. That made me feel like they think I’m making it up. I chew gum to take the bad taste away and to cover the smell. I read something online they call it uremic fetor, it’s a result of kidney failure.

I read that too. I guess cause theres no harm in it the drs are ok with it. They are just focusing on kidney funtion. Good luck this is a frustrating journey.

I believe you. I have the same.Sometimes it's so bad that it makes me sick. I lose my appetite. I am always reaching for a mint. I have stage 3.
