Elevated CRP

Well, the good news just continues. After finding out via email that I have ckd I finally set down to look at the rest of my results. My C-reactive protein test seems to be extremely elevated at 12.8. Could this be because of my kidney disease?? Cholesterol number are fine. Tryglicerides just a little on the high side.

I think it is disgraceful that your doctor sends you an email to tell you that you have CKD.

Well, it was actually the lab that sent me the email. My doctor has yet to see the results. And for what it's worth, the report certainly don't say I have CKD. In fact it says both my creatinine (1.3) and eGFR (65) are completely normal. So I'm almost positive my heart doc is going to blow this off and tell me to stop worrying. We''ll see. My anxiety got the best of me last night and I spent a little money to talk to one of those online docs to answer a few questions. Things quickly turned into yaddayaddayadda once he seen my labs. He was insistent that a eGFR or 65 was completely fine and to stop worrying. However, I know better.

No. He's right. Stop worrying. Above 60 is great...considered NORMAL. You need to see or talk to someone more for anxiety than your kidneys. Just a thought. Or try a Mindfulness app like 'Calm.'

Eh, I wish he was right. But not likely. I've had severe BP spikes the last several months. And I mean severe. I knew something was wrong. Plus, just 4 years ago my eGFR was 92, now it's 65. Something is definitely not right. I've never had anxiety before. I'm sure that will fade over time. I doubt this level of anxiety is really that unusual. I mean I do have to come to the realization that I likely have a terminal illness. I think that justifies a little touch of anxiety.

Have you been tested for other medical problems? High or erratic blood pressure does not mean you're going to die from CKD. Have you had a cardiac work up? I hope with those blood pressure problems you are being treated by a cardiologist and not just a GP/PCP. I wish you the best but you you need to chill and deal with facts before declaring any illness you might have is terminal. Cruze, we're ALL going to die. But here's what I think about when I'm feeling sorry for myself for having CKD, bipolar disorder, asthma, an eye condition, sleep disorder, chronic peripheral neuropathy and cervical dystonia (among others)...there are lots of people suffering more than me.

Terminal illness? My Creatinine is 1.86 and my eGFR is always between 28 and 35. I eat healthier, lost weight, and see my nephrologist every six months for labs & routine follow up. I have been at this stage for 6+ years. I am 64. I may or may not end up on dialysis but if so, I'll do it. Worrying and working yourself into a panic is only going to raise your blood pressure, hence affecting your kidneys. Sometimes we are our own worst enemy. Once the initial shock is over, follow a kidney diet, exercise, and most importantly, stop thinking all is gloom and doom. If you do research, do it at Mayo Clinic, National Kidney Foundation, or other reputable sites. This is where I would get good information. Also, as we get older, our kidney functioning naturally ages as the rest of our body does. Most people with CKD would love to have an eGFR of 60-65. This is an early sign to help myself so that it may never go much lower with proper care of oneself. I do not consider my CKD to be fatal, not with advances in medicine.
