Can Cervical Dystonia cause Rotator Cuff Tears

Hello,

I was diagnosed with right sided cervical dystonia in 2018. I have been suffering for almost a year with a really bad pain in my right shoulder and poor arm mobility.

I have just received the results of an MRI scan this afternoon advising me that I have a full thickness tear in the supraspinatus muscle and that I have a 3mm bony spur on the surface in the shoulder area.

Just wondering if there is any connection between the two conditions as the areas are very close to each other.

Hi Anne. I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised. I get dystonia in my leg/foot and had a stress fracture in my fibula. Maybe one causes the other, but I don't know which way round it would be. Did you ask your neuro?

Many thanks for your response. I am seeing a rheumatologist for the rotator cuff problem. My neurologist does not see me any more as the Botox injections don't agree with me.

I am sorry you fractured your fibula and hope it has mended now.

Hi Anne. I saw a really good lecture yesterday put on by the Canadian Dystonia Research Foundation - it was a neurologist in Toronto. He said dystonia can cause secondary muscular skeletal problems. They will post the lecture so I can give you the link if you like?
